Genesis 3.8L

When stepping on the gas, or...rapidly stepping OFF the gas...the front end of the car yaws right and left..once. Once right then left, or vice-versa. This happens at most speeds, but it very very noticeable above 40 MPH and extremely concerning at highway speeds.

I took it to my "got-to" garage...not the dealer. They immediately confirmed the problem in a test drive. The front end was tight. Everything was tight and I had a new strut on the left side. The typical 'shock test' (bounce test) passed for the rear end shocks. The owner then got involved and he took it out for a test drive. When he returned he put it back up on the lift. This time with a technician in the driver's seat while elevated. The Genesis has independent rear suspension. With the tires/wheels hanging loose in the air, the tech held his foot firmly on the brake pedal...then torqued the engine...stepped on the gas. Immediately the rear wheels were driving inward...with just a quick push on the accelerator pedal. The same thing happened when the gas pedal was quickly released. The rear wheels were driven upward. This action prompted the owner to think..REAR SHOCKS.

At nearly 60,000 miles the rear shocks were original...and the connection between the forces causing the rear wheels to be driven upward suddenly and the problem with the front end moving suddenly left and right...was made. We all agreed to replace the shocks and see if the problem went away. A few hundred bucks later I had the car back and tested it. The sudden yaw right and left was gone. I mean gone.

However two days later it returned. Not quite as bad as the original experience but very noticeable...I maintain this to be a dangerous condition. The garage shop owner is out of ideas and will attempt to research the problem further. Thus....my description here today on this website. I would like to think that people in the know read this website and report back some solid feedback. I really do not know if that can be expected...ideally I would want Hyundai to get involved.

This is a dangerous condition..when your car suddenly lurches right and then back left...it is alarming and could result in total loss of control if the driver is surprised and reacts by over-correcting.
