Oil leak from engine valve cover - left (front) side of 3.3 V6. This is directly above alternator. Eventually alternator fails due to severe oil/dirt contamination. First noticed when battery light comes on at idle, showing charging problem. By then damage is done. Valve cover must be replaced along with alternator or problem will quickly recur. *there is currently a recall for Hyundai veracruz with same engine for the same problem. Sonata is not included, but a quick internet search shows this to be a common, well-known problem for many years.

In Jan. 2015 it was on a 100 mile highway trip. Upon arrival he noticed the engine developed a knocking noise. I found many 2.4L Hyundai's with the same problem on the internet. The engine was made in Indiana. It sounds the same as nhsta campaign #15V-568. It needs a new engine. I can't upload it, but I have video of the knocking. I believe the recall needs to be expanded to earlier years

The car was expertly maintained, followed the severe duty maintenance schedule. Never had a problem until 125,000 miles. Metallic debris in the crankcase caused the oil pump not to spray oil onto the connecting rod bearing causing a complete engine failure. This is the same thing that was recently recalled on the newer 2011-up theta II. The theta I and theta II are the exact same short blocks except for the theta II's direct injection system. My mechanic who did the repair was very surprised since he always inspected my car annually and knew I used to be a mechanic and maintained all my cars like clockwork. The repair cost was $4,113.53, see attached invoice. The existing recall should be for all theta engine since 2006-up not just for the 2011-up.

At approx. 79K miles, when vehicle was turned on you could hear a mild knocking noise, and then it would fade. Took to dealer they could not identify the problem. At approx. 96K miles vehicle was driving on highway and vehicle shut off. Could not restart. Towed the vehicle after wards vehicle started up and knocking noise got louder. The noise is now on all the time and has a cyclic knocking noise from the engine. Advised manufacturer of other problems with vehicle in July of 2015. The engine stall happed in mid Aug of 2015. Had vehicle diagnosed on Aug 27, 2015. I have uploaded that diagnosis. Dealer advised possible metal debris, but said I would have to pay addistional fees to determine the cause. The diagnosis states the same problems as the NHTSA campaign number: 15V-568 and Hyundai campaign # 132. Loud tapping noise when running coming from bottom end rod. Need engine replaced. This was documented before the news broke out about the engine recall.

Evaluation showed that the alternator had failed and was covered with engine oil which had leaked from the front valve cover gasket onto the alternator. This failure is the same as NHTSA campaign number 14V415000, which covers another Hyundai vehicle.

Under normal driving, vehicle suddenly sputtered a bit and then the check engine light and electronic stability control light came on. The car then would barely move over 15-20 mph. We found out that these are the classic symptoms of a tps issue, for which Hyundai issued tsb 10-fl-010. We have had the vehicle at the dealership for all of the recommended repairs from that tsb twice with no resolution to the problem. My concern is that this problem occurs randomly and without warning. At least twice it has occurred on the interstate, and I felt we were lucky to get off to the side without another car running into us. I am extremely worried that the next time this happens we won't be as fortunate, and someone can be seriously hurt. This is also a very common issue with Hyundai. Frankly, I would not be surprised if someone has already been hurt because of this. I am also surprised Hyundai has not issued a recall or found a better solution to this problem. I believe this is a very serious problem and urgent safety issue. In fact, we would like to get rid of the car, but we cannot afford to buy another car, nor am I too keen on inflicting this problem on some other unsuspecting person thinking they are buying a good, reliable car. Please try to pressure Hyundai to come up with a better solution.

Oil pan rusting out. A lot of engine motor oil seeping out of entire oil pan. Professional mechanic states this is not normal wear and tear at this low mileage. Eventually oil will leak out causing engine to seize and fail.

I only put 2 items but I have other campaigns in with same care but im driving the car and I loose power in car to everything like it was shut off at key then goes back on does it like 2 or 3 times a week I almost hit another car due to no power to brakes then car just goes right back on without touching anything other problems never heard back is the issue with a known problem with the gas tank leak due to the metal on top rusting and cracks plastic tank cause service engine light to stay on then the front suspension clunking since I bought it 2 yrs ago but dealership cant find nothing its the upper control arm my airbag light in driver cluster was on when I bought it dealer said they fixed it same day I bought it went for state inspect wouldn't pass the fuse was pulled so light stays off this car is a lemon they should repair or buy it back I put more in car in 2 years than what I paid for it so far and still needs more work.
