I started having a crack in dashboard about a two years or so ago. I noticed a crack in the passenger side, then in the drivers side. I purchased a cover to cover the dashboard felt. After 6 months ago that was flapping when you turn on the defroster. It was winter so I removed the cover thinking the two cracks I had was from the sun. When I removed the cover I had cracks all over my dashboard like a map. These cracks impacts the sound of the radio along with looking hideous. I have never owned a car where the dashboard has cracked until I purchased a a Hyundai. First and definitely the last make of care I will purchase. Very cheaply made,

I took my car to the dealership for the recall on the airbag then the next winter it starting cracking. I'm not in really cold area. Over the past year it has gotten much worse! I always use a windshield reflector to protect the dash etc but this is not related to weather. I called dealership to ask what to do and why is it doing this but was given the run around and never given a reason or solution except to replace it. I can not believe Hyundai is not recalling these cars because that will eventually cause serious injuries or accidents because of airbags. Please tell me how we can begin a petition to get Hyundai to do a recall! Ty

The dash just keeps getting worse. I use a sunscreen visor in my car when it's not parked in my garage. Worried about the look and safety of airbag. Still a hot looking car but when you get in it looks like car from the 80s.

I was cleaning my interior today. I removed the Dashmate protective cover that I have had for the dash since I got the car in 2012. And since I live in south Florida I also use a sun reflector inside the front windshield and all my other windows are tinted. Anyway, when I removed the Dashmate, I was stunned to see a half dozen or more severe cracks in the dashboard. After seeing the other comments here about the same problem, and obviously it seems as if it is pointless to go to the Hyundai dealership for any type of satisfaction.

My son is a Toyota mechanic and he said when they go complaints on cracked dashes that Toyota replaced them as a Customer Satisfaction program, even though they were not covered by warranty. Seems Hyundai could learn something from Toyota. Have been pretty satisfied with my car and Hyundai until this, but this will definitely impact my thinking when I go to buy a new car in the future. Seems like they would understand some goodwill PR for retaining customers.

I would gladly send you a picture later. It's disgusting. 32k miles and the dash looks like some car has been sitting in a back alley somewhere - it looks like new with the exception of a dash that doesn't even look like an air bag could possibly remotely come from??

It's embarrassing to say the least!

There was an airbag recall and of course I brought my car into the dealer to have it fixed. Weeks later I noticed a very thin crack on the passenger side corner by my speaker, I was shocked. Another crack appeared on the drivers side same place. I questioned the dealer and they said it was from the heat. Next thing I know, I have numerous huge deep cracks all over my dashboard now worried if it will hold my airbag in. I have always tried to park in the shade and always use a dashboard shade protector.

I decided to start researchIng dashboard issues and I saw there were numerous complaints the same as mine and that Hyundai changed the material of the dashboard the following year because of the problems they were having, the material was weak. I feel Hyundai should make good on the dashboards and have a recall. Also the dealers know there is was problem and yet they are putting the blame on their customers. There was nothing wrong with my dash until they addressed the airbag recall issue, my dashboard problem needs to be on their dime!

cracked dashboard

My daughter kept hearing cracking sounds while driving earlier this year after we took the vehicle to the dealership to comply with recalls. (08/21/2019 @ 104,480miles) and (01/21/2019 @ 100,499miles).

The crack on the dash was not visible until the spring when it became an eye grabber, and as the cracking sounds happen the run of the crack got longer. I went to visit her at college on 10/02-10/04/2020 only to see one line crack on the dashboard. Today 10/08/2020 she sent me that picture that is attached showing a second run that joins the first one.

I am hoping someone will let the manufacturer know that this could potentially become a safety issue relating to how close it is to the airbag within the dash compartment... and hope that there will be some happy medium on a solution to resolve this matter before someone gets injured.

My 2011 Sonata SE has been an absolutely HORRIBLE car. It has had more recalls than any vehicle I have owned in the past 40years! The alarm will sound in the middle of the night for no reason, the tail light assembly burned up, and the electrical system is of very poor quality. Worse, the engine blew up (threw a rod out of the bottom) scaring the crap out of my daughter, almost causing a serious accident, and leaving her stranded on the side of the road in the middle of now where while returning home from a nighttime social event. Hyundai replaced the engine without any additional hassle. Shortly thereafter, the dashboard began cracking all over. Yes, we live in Florida but modern dashboards should NOT crack from UV, heat or direct sunlight. More cheap s*** from Hyundai. My daughter took it to the local Hyundai dealership and they looked and said, yeah, it'll be $3000 to fix it. These are not normal cracks that you would see on an old dashboard that has been out in the sun for years. Overall, Hyundai's 2011 Sonata is a MAJOR LEMON. I would strongly recommend against anyone buying one.

This will certainly be my last Hyundai - EVER! They have lost my trust.

Dealer will not fix this (Wallace Hyundai). It occurred right after the air bags were serviced for recall. Seems to me dealer caused since it started to crack 2 weeks after service.

Never will I buy another vehicle from this company! The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration should make them fix this problem!

I just can't believe it. Now 8 years old car that is still under warranty has this issue. Its so ugly. The dashboard cracking is so bad that i don't even want to drive this car anymore. It reminds me on 1999 Chevrolet cavalier. I went to Hyundai service and they tell me its not covered under warranty and it will be couple thousands to fix it. I was like but this looks so bad on Hyundai and they should take care of this. They tried to sell me another Sonata, i was like what...But they didn't care. I own Sonata and Santa Fe but after this issue and their customer service i will not buy Hyundai again. I bought and serviced this car at Universal Hyundai Orlando and so far had terrible experience. I also tried to fix this at Orlando Hyundai but no help from them either. Please stay away from these businesses. They don't care about their loyal customers.

Dealer will not fix this (Coggin Deland Hyundai). It occurred right after the air bags were serviced for recall. This has overall been a very bad vehicle to own and treated like a 3rd class citizen from Hyundai. Never will I buy another vehicle from this company! This problem with the dash negates any sale of the vehicle. I talked with the dealer where I purchased the car and they said it would cost 3K for the dashboard and then lots of $$ for install. I am not happy about this as the material for the dash was a soft material and as of 2012 models they corrected and put in a hard dashboard...so it would seem that they knew about the problem and rectified it but won't help anyone with the 2011 dash and is coming apart.

Dasboard on right passenger side of 2011 Hyundai Sonata is cracked and is getting progressively worse. The cracks are mainly over the airbag. I contacted Hyundai and was told it is not under warranty and it would be my responsibility to repair the dashboard. I see other complaints about this problem and I recently spoke with a friend who is the owner of a 2009 sonata and said the dashboard has so many cracks. I have never had this occur in any of my other cars, all of which I owned for many more years than this car. Seems the dashboards are defective and Hyundai should acknowledge this and fix the problem.

Hyundai says it is not their issue. Many people I know who own the 2010 - 2013 have the problem but never report it. Fitzgerald tried to get Hyundai to repair and it was flat denied. The dash looks like a roadmap. At least 10 cracks and more coming everyday. Everybody that sees it laughs and says they will never buy one of these cars. Truth is I like Hyundai and it is the 4th I have bought starting with my kids cars. Even though they replace my engine and performed many recalls on the car I have stood by them. Failing to acknowledge and fix this issue or at least share is unbelievable and my next car will be another brand.

I have always heard cracking from the dashboard or windshield area since I bought my car new. Thought is was strange but chalked it up as a minor annoyance. One morning there was a crack near the left front speaker towards the windshield on the dash. I was not happy but what can you do? Since then I have four more large cracks that come out of nowhere as I notice them when I get into my car. I currently have 5 major cracks on the dash pad that extend from the windshield to the dashboard.

I got no love from Hyundai and was told I would not unless there was a recall. Since there are so many recalls already for this model/year it just might happen! Please report your cracked dash if you have not already! May God Bless you!

What does Hyundai really mean when it advertises 100,000 mile warranty? With the amount you purchase on a reliable vehicle, you want to feel as if it was worth it. You want to believe the sales pitch that's advertised is true and they will stand behind and believe in their product. I have had every recall and more on my vehicle. This has made me a non-believer till I would never want to own another Hyundai. I have spent so much money out of pocket on getting repairs done due to being told I have 60,100 miles on my vehicle, which means they can't cover that repair because I’m 100 miles over the warranty. The dashboard has started to crack after the recall for the engine and yet again I was told it couldn't be replaced because the vehicle is 5 years old. When does the 100,000 mile warranty come into effect? Every time I try to address the many issues I've had over the years with this vehicle, it seems they would rather talk me into buying another one. My question to them is....why would I purchase another Hyundai when my issues are not even solved with the one I have?
