Car was in motion heading straight on a busy interstate. I had been driving for approximately 45 minutes when it completely died causing the car to come to a complete stop right in the middle of a dark interstate. All of the dash lights came on right when the car started to die. There was no shoulder on this part of the interstate and it would not make it to the next exit. When the car came to a complete stop all the lights were then off and I could not even turn on the hazard lights, nothing at all was working. I tried to restart it a couple of times until I saw smoke coming from under the hood then I stopped because I thought it was going to catch on fire. I ended up getting it towed off the interstate to my house. The 2011 Sonata has known engine problems but not sure yet if mine was a result of the motor locking up or if it was electrical or perhaps both.

The dealer (interstate Hyundai, 609 constitution dr., West monroe, la 71292, (318) 387-2667) was contacted because the failure prevented the vehicle from starting. The manufacturer was contacted and indicated that the vehicle needed to be towed to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. We were driving and the car engine just stopped in motion in the middle of the city street. Everything locked and would not start - looked inside and the oil was black (I just got an oil change, less than a month ago). I spoke to a mechanic and they said this specific model has many issues, specifically excessive oil burning. I had my car towed and need to get it running asap. Please let me know what I need to do. Thank you.

The contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. While driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle stalled. As a result, the contact lost control of the vehicle and crashed into another vehicle. The contact stated that the collision occurred as the contact's vehicle was coasting to the side of the roadway; however, the other vehicle kept driving. The contact mentioned that all the warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel when the vehicle stalled. There were no injuries and a police report was not filed. Upon attempting to restart the vehicle on the second attempt, smoke was seen coming from the front of the vehicle. The contact opened the hood and noticed a small engine fire. The contact was able to extinguish the fire. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence and the insurance company was called. A local unknown Hyundai dealer was also called and informed the contact that the vehicle was previously serviced per an unknown recall for the engine stalling. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The recall information was not provided. The failure mileage was 133,000.

I am appalled at the conditions I've had to endure with my Sonata. I've never seen or owned a more unsafe vehicle. My steering column broke, the engine was replaced twice, I've dealt with electrical problems, now it's involved in the airbag failure recall and I've needed to take my car in due to the 13 recalls. My Sonata is one of the first made. It's from the Alabama plant. I would like to hear why the NHTSA has not made Hyundai buy these vehicles back? I don't have the option of just going out and buying a new vehicle. I've raised my granddaughters and am now afraid to take them anywhere in my car. I'm begging that you make Hyundai get these cars off the road. It sickens me to know I've owned several Hyundai's. given them my trust and dedication to only feel they've turned their backs on me and the safety of my family. I'd really like to be contacted. I have records of all my work done. The only thing I could not get was receipts for warranty items they determined I didn't need receipts for. Even after I complained and demanded them. My vehicle was purchased and serviced at superior Hyundai North in fairfield oh. I have so many records, even recordings, that I can't possibly upload them all on here.

Takata recall my caught fire 4/20/2018, the smell came from near the passenger lower foot area, it was a rubbery burning smell that quickly became white smoke emitting from the area. The car began running very roughly about 6 months ago, I did an oil change. A month later the car was over 2 quarts low on oil, where the oil went I have no idea. The car has been in the dealership over and over and over for various electrical, mechanical and engine issues. I have all documentation and feel the car is a safety hazard. Why is Hyundai performing the inspections on these cars when clearly they are the ones responsible. The inpsections should be done by independent mechanics that will be non biased. My car doesn't have brake lights that operate correctly either they work sometimes or not at all. It just depends on the connectivity of the electrical wiring at the time, I am totally not sure. The car just began being able to start without pressing the brake pedal. This just started and the stop pad for the brake recall has already been performed. It isn't just a stop pad issue. The entire car is an electrical hazard waiting to happen I just pray I am not in my car when it catches fire and no one else is caused any accident or injury as a result of it.

Takata recall I have gone through the ringer with this vehicle I purchased the engine stopped on me while I was driving down the interstate. It wasn't until I hounded down Hyundai after them not returning my calls for 3 weeks that they told me there was a recall on my engine. I spent almost $1000 in rental fees of my own money before they contacted me. They eventually got in contact with me and put in a rental car but also assured me I I would be reimbursed for the out-of-pocket fees I had to pay. That happened in September of 2017 it is now April of 2018 and I still haven't received any funds. Another issue happened about 3 weeks ago while I was on my way to work while sitting at a red light once it turned green I pressed down on the gas to go forward and the car would not move. I've had my car towed almost 7 times in the past month for it to be a transmission issue. Which after doing research online there is a recall for the cvt transmission for my car. This is another recall that I was not informed about and have yet to be informed about. I've had nothing but financial hardships dealing with servicing this car and being ignored by your company. It is absolutely outrageous

I went to the nearest Hyundai dealership to get some open recalls that I had done and I had like 5 or 6, many of which were very critical. I got a call next day asking me to come and pick up my car, which I was very skeptical about. They asked me to sign a paper indicating that everything is done. I asked if I can speak to someone to explain why this happened so quickly and if there's anything to worry about and they couldn't connect me with anyone neither did they ask for my information to contact me when that expert is available. Now about a month since taking the car to the dealership, I check my VIN online and to my surprise 4 of the most critical open recalls are still not closed or remedied. They involve problems with the engine, transmission, seatbelt, and brake pedal. There are all issues that could result in a fatal accident. I don't really know what to do because this is a matter of honesty. I should not have had to check for them to begin with. This Hyundai dealer is sunbury motors Hyundai.
