At 30,000 miles I took my 2013 Sonata back to the dealer and told them to keep the car until they can figure out why the cruise only will set when I hit the steering wheel... They tried to replace the cruise switch ..no good then they replaced the clock spring under the steering wheel ...no good... then against the factory not approving the repair they replaced the wire harness that went through the steering column and now there is 42,000 miles on my 2013 Hyundai Sonata and my cruise control has not failed since the head mechanic Tom replaced the wire harness...I really love my 2013 Sonata Limited and I also have a 2012 Veloster and have owned a total of 8 new Hyundai cars since 2002.... ADVICE TO ALL WITH THE SAME PROBLEM STICK TO YOUR GUNS AND KEEP BRINGING YOUR CAR BACK TO THE DEALER....AND LET THEM KNOW HOW I GOT MY CAR FIXED!!!!!!!!

The cruise control, set and resume buttons would work intermittently. Usually I could get it to work by banging hard on the steering wheel on the side where the CC buttons are located. Took it in and dealer replaced relay switches under warranty

1-This is my wife's car but I am the first driver for long trips. Because of pain in the leg, I need to use the cruise control. 2- On april 24 th 2015, when the vehicle had 21462 km, I brought it to the dealer where they changed the cruise control switch. The reason is that the CANCEL button refuse o function and the SET button fonction once in a while. The reparation was on warranty and last for exactly one month. On June24th while the odometer was at 24300 km, same problem came back, No more CANCEL button and SET button need function after many try. 3-I have an appointment with my dealer for july 15 th2015.

Update from Jan 5, 2016: august 17th 2015 repaired for second time=ok until october 4th 2015. Cant make the Set work and after trying, the Cancel becomes the Set and all the buttons get jammed on. The only way to stop the cruise is the brake pedal. Since then I had at least three times problems whith the SET button who refuse to function. I visited my dealer twice. I was suppose to receive a call today.....I will verify on legal side and give a follow up soon.

Update from Jun 4, 2016: Cruise control button was repaired on guaranty for the THIRD TIME on 13April2016. As usual, good for a few weeks. Same problem is back. Need to hit the steering wheel to make it function. After nearly three years it seems that HYUNDAI have not yet found the way to make a cruise control work NORMALLY.

Update from Dec 29, 2016: Since the last visit to the dealer on april13th2016, cruise is functionning normally. I gave them a copy of the number #6 complaint where morty0071 whrote that they changed the wire harness. They told me that they- Verified- the wire.....

Problem that is documented at the Hyundai at least six to eight times. The cruise control does turn on but when you push the set button nothing happens. I went to the dealer and they replaced the cruise switch on the steering wheel ....Two months go by and the set buttons stops working again...Back to the dealer and they replace the switch again.. Two months go by and the same thing happens.

The only way that it does set is by punching the steering wheel, then it does set ..They {at the dealer} thought I was Crazy... I told them to drive the car and try to set it at speed and if the cruise does not set, hit the wheel and it will set....They took the car out and tested it and it would not set, then the tech hit the steering wheel and then it did set!!!! This has been going on for over two years and it does not look like they will be able to fix the problem.

Five days ago it happened again and as I always do, I went back to the dealer and told them to keep the car until they figure out what is wrong!!!I just got my car back and they replaced the cruise control switch and a wiring harness...It's working for now but let's see if it will work after two months!!!! WHAT ELSE CAN I DO???????

problem #2

Sep 012014

Sonata Limited 2.0t

  • Automatic transmission
  • 35,000 miles

I had issues with setting my cruise control almost from the day I purchased my car. I rely heavily on my cruise control, and I noticed that sometimes my cruise control would not set when I pressed the "SET" button. If, by some miracle, I was able to get the cruise control to set, I would have problems disengaging the cruise control via the "CANCEL" button. I would have to step on the brake or turn the cruise control off entirely by pressing the cruise control "ON/OFF" switch. Definitely annoying. I started to notice that if I banged on the steering wheel, then pressed the "CANCEL" switch, the button would work!

I complained to the dealership multiple times, but they were unable to reproduce the issue. After multiple complaints, they were finally able to reproduce the issue. The cruise control switch was replaced, and worked great for about three months with no issues.

However, I am starting to notice the same issues I had before: the "SET" button not always setting the cruise control, and the "CANCEL" button not always canceling the set cruise speed. I just started noticing this within the past 2 weeks. I have not notified the dealer yet, but you can sure bet that I will complain when I go back for my next oil change! I am starting to wonder if there is an underlying issue in the electrical system....

This is a safety issue. My wife requires cruise control due to RA. Shocker, dealer says it can't reproduce effect at low speed. Suggested that a tech take it home as this individual does travel at highway speeds. Nonsensical, as I don't want anyone driving a car that I know has a safety issue. Dealer won't fix as it can't reproduce effect even though it is under warranty. Hyundai Customer Satisfaction pretty much worthless. I was told no one within Hyundai can suggest the dealer just fix the issue so as to bypass liability issue that now exists. If my wife is hurt because Hyundai failed to fix this, I may own a car company!

Anyone else have this kind of issue with a Sonata cruise control?
