Sonata

The engine seized on July 31 while on vacation. We were driving into merced, ca, on highway 140, and had accelerated to pass a line of cars when the engine quit. We were able to get to the side of the road and had aaa tow it into merced Hyundai. Hyundaiusa agreed it was a factory defect and paid for the replacement, and ultimately a rental car for us to use (they also reimbursed the cost of the rental we had to use before they authorized the repair). The engine was replaced at that dealership (after 5 weeks of calling just about every day and being ignored). We picked it up on Sept. 6. once at home, a problem with the fuel rail was discovered. Our local dealer 'fixed' it, and when we picked it up the turbo no longer worked and the catalytic converter quit functioning. We are trying to get the dealer to fix it or buy it back at their cost, since we feel it was negligence on their part. We loved the car before the engine seized, but since the 'repair, ' it has been nothing but trouble.

The engine in this particular model is Hyundai's 2.4L gdi (theta II). The engine seized without warning even though it had the software update that detects engine wear and prevents engine failure while driving. Hyundai did well and replaced the engine under warranty and provided me a rental vehicle. 8,000 miles later with the same vehicle now the check engine light is flashing and acceleration is dramatically reduced. I was able to take some backroads with little traffic to a local Hyundai dealership and am waiting for diagnosis again.this started on a very busy local highway.

Every time I go to start my car it gives me a warning to check brakes. I read online that many Hyundai owners are having similar issues. This warning keeps the engine from starting. Along with this, there are also issues with the steering column and suspension.

2013 Hyundai Sonata hybrid I have been back and forth to the dealer several times in regards to my car shutting down on me. In the middle of me driving it will start beeping loud and while losing power the panel reeds pull over safely and shut engine off. The second time I take it to the dealer he said don't allow the gas to get two 1/4 of a tank. So I had kept it at half a tank and yet again it lost all power and shut down on me in the middle of driving. Totally not safe! take it back to the Hyundai dealer and was told the battery and everything looks okay. I was sent home again! then one morning my car would not start. I read a forum that said jiggle the shift around or put it in drive and then back up to park and then press the button for it to start. It literally worked and I took a video of me doing those steps. I took the car back to Hyundai dealer show them the video. I also told them that the forum said to replace the inhibitor switch. The mechanic agreed but yet puzzled about the car shutting down on me. This happened again yesterday Friday Feb 28, 2020 and I called today they said may be looked at on Monday. So my car is yet at the dealer until the engineers are able to look at it. I'm tired of getting my car back and having the same issues over and over again. My car has around 87,000 miles and yet under warranty until 100,000 miles. I should not have to pay for these dangerous issues. I called a few times to see if there was a recall on my car but no recall. I just bought this car in November of 2019 and the issue started a week later the day after thanksgiving. It is now February 2020 and I'm yet dealing with these issues. I'm totally at wit's end. It won't let me upload the video but here are a few pictures!

I was driving to work and about to turn into the parking lot and I came to a stop at the median and the car died. I went to turn on the car and dash and radio came on but engine did not turn over. I attempted two more times and smoke started to come out. There were no alerts of check engine or oil at any point. Last oil change was only a month or so overdue as I had not driven for a month at all due to working from home. No oil L leaks in driveway.

Vehicle was driving perfectly fine, no noises, driving down the interstate with my daughter in the car, the motor locked up and caught on fire. The car turned off on its own and I was able to coast to the side of the road and put out the fire. I contacted numerous dealerships, Hyundai and tried to have the motor replaced due to seeing this recall and was denied saying my VIN did not fall under that recall. So I had to purchase a new motor and pay for installation on my own.

Stopped at a tool booth on a 2 lane highway. When the bar raised to let me through, I accelerated and the car completely died without warning. Fortunately, was able to get to shoulder and call for roadside assistance. Garage car was towed to tried to crank it and got smoke under the hood. Eventually determined that the engine was locked up and needs to be replaced. Engine has just over 90K miles and has had regular oil changes.

I purchased a 2013 Hyundai Sonata and once it hit a little over 100K miles it started using more and more oil. I'm currently using 1-1.5 quarts every 1000 miles or so. I religiously change the oil but it's either way too low by that time or is almost black. I check my oil every week since I'm a one income household and I take my kids to and from school in it. I maintain it very well and make sure it has the proper oil and other fluids. It's a constant hassle trying to keep it from going low and blowing the motor up. I hope this problem is resolved soon.

While driving out of town 2 hours away from home on major highway car suddenly stopped. Had my 3 children in the back and had to get in the middle lane and turn my hazards on and call a town truck. I had to pay 300 dollars to get the car towed home. While searching online I saw a engine recall and several other recalls for the 2013 Hyundai Sonata. I called the Hyundai recall line and they set up an appointment to have the car checked out. I called Hyundai and asked if they had any tow services that they provided, they stated that I would have to pay for tow services so I then payed 60 dollars to have the car towed to Hyundai by aaa which Hyundai advices. Hyundai called and informed me the next day that they put it on the machine and that it was the engine that failed and they would have to order an engine from Hyundai they also informed me that I would be charged 150 dollars for them to get the key fob to work to the car. After Hyundai received the new engine they called and informed me that they are unable to pull the engine in and out of the car due to from end damage which included the radiator, motor blower, and head gasket and that I would have to agree to pay 2895 dollars for them to even put the engine in the car. He asked me if the dealership I bought the car from had reported any wrecks where the front end could be damaged. I then explained to the manager of Hyundai mechanics that I have a clear blue title and in order for there to be a wreck that caused front end damage I would by law have to have a savage title.I was sold the car as is from car lot but was informed there were no accident and had been certified tested. Looking online and speaking with another mechanic I was informed that radiator motor blower and head gasket are are causes due to an car running hot from engine failure.speaking with corporate they made false promises and then declined.
