I’m hoping someone can shed some light on a serious problem I’m having with my 2007 Infiniti G37. I purchased the car new, and it now has 21,000 miles on it, all driven by me only. Since the car was new, on occasion (approximately every two months or so), the engine rpm will race to approximately 3500 rpm for no apparent reason. This happens with the engine hot or cold. In the past, it only occurred with the car in “Park”, but the last two times it has happened with the car in “Drive”, causing it to lurch forward. I fear that this can happen again possibly causing damage and injury so I’m nervous driving the vehicle. The car otherwise has been perfect.

I complained to the dealer a number of times; each time they looked at it, of course, it didn’t happen. They told me they couldn’t do anything if they can’t see it themselves. They initially implied I was doing something wrong and actually had me drive it with a mechanic to witness my driving habits. No error codes ever show up in the system. They have updated TCM and ECM software. One time they even performed a “ throttle re-learn”, whatever that is. The dealer has consulted a number of times with the area troubleshooter, with no results. The area rep actually took the vehicle home with him and drove it for three days. I understand the dealer’s dilemma dealing with these intermittent problems. All I’ve asked him to do is to replace the most likely cause of the problem and see if that corrects it. If it doesn’t, change the next most likely cause, etc. until the problem is corrected. They won’t.

My next step may be to take legal action. Any thoughts I can take back to him before I do this? Thank you for any assistance you can provide.
