  • Automatic transmission

ON A CALL EVENING AFTER WORK ON MY WAY HOME, I HEARD A LOUD EXPLOSION UNDER MY VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING. IT BECAME OUT OF CONTROL AND AN ONGOING NOISE LIKE EVERY GEAR, AXLES AND SHAFTS WERE FIGHTING AGAINST EACH OTHER BEFORE THE THE VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY. IT WAS TOWED BY AAA TO MY MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC.

THE FOLLOWING DAY BY LUNCH TIME I HAD THE MOST TERRIBLE CALL THAT TOOK AWAY MY APPETITE. MRS TOUSSAINT, I AM SORRY TO INFORM YOU THAT YOU WILL NEED CLOSE TO $5000 IF YOU WANT YOUR 2005 QX56 BACK ON THE ROAD. YOU NEED A RADIATOR AND A TRANSMISSION. I COULD NOT BELIEVE IT. WITHOUT ANY SYMPTOMS OR WARNING, I FIND THAT HARD TO BELIEVE.

I HAVE AN ASSOCIATE IN AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY AND USED TO WORK IN A RESPECTABLE DEALERSHIP BEFORE I CHANGED CAREER. IF THERE WAS ANY THING INDICATING SOMETHING WRONG OR WILL BE WRONG WITH MY VEHICLE, I WOULD NOTICE IT. SINCE INFINITI IS NOT WILLING TO LISTEN TO HIS CUSTOMER'S COMPLAINTS OR EVEN TRY TO HELP FIXING THE PROBLEM, I AM JOINING MY VOICE WITH ALL THE OTHERS WITH ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME DILEMMA. HOPEFULLY THE GOVERNMENT WILL TAKE THESE COMPLAINTS UNDER CONSIDERATION TO INVESTIGATE THIS MATTER IN ORDER TO EASE THE FINANCIAL BURDEN THAT THIS VEHICLE CAUSING THE INFINITY 'S CUSTOMERS.

QX56

  • Automatic transmission
  • 69,000 miles

Unbelievable how my transmission got ruined by a factory defect in the radiator causing the transmission fluid to get contaminated and Infinity wont own up to it. My wife drove the truck to work and back home and parked it in the driveway with no problems visible or otherwise. The following night I backed the truck out of the driveway but realized it was struggling greatly to go forward and the check ATS light came on. Not wanting to make matters worse I backed it into the drive (since this is the only direction it would move in) and used our other vehicle. The manual says to take the vehicle to a dealer if the ATS light is on so I had AAA tow it to the dealer where I was told my radiator is leaking and my transmission needed replacing. I was within the mileage (under 70k) but a few months past the time for the warranty so this would cost me $5,000. Took the truck to a very reputable local transmission shop and was informed by the mechanics there that this is a very common and well known problem with the Armada's and QX56 where the radiator also cools the transmission fluid and can ruin the transmission due to a defect in the radiator.

I called Infinity Customer complaint and opened a case with them but they refused to acknowledge there is an issue with this model and was told there was nothing they could/would do for me. My truck is still at the Transmission shop waiting for a valve body from Infinity and to have the transmission rebuilt and the radiator and all hoses and clamps replaced. I got much more use from other vehicles I've owned over the years that cost a fraction of what I paid for this hunk of Junk that needed a major repair at under 70k miles. I will NEVER buy another Nissan or Infinity product again.
