Cherokee Limited 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 42,000 miles

On multiple occasions after hitting 42,000 miles, each time we fill up the car, the car stalls when you brake. Most recently, after filling up the gas tank, the car stalled out, and when we tried to restart it and put it in gear, the car bucked and operated with little to no power and then just stalled out on the road again. I took it into Jeep and spoke directly with Jeep/Chrysler Customer Service at corporate. After first telling me it was an oil consumption issue, they changed their tune and now say that their engineers have issued a bulletin and the cause is that I am overfilling the gas tank and that causes the car to stall out. ABSURD!!!! They say there is no fix other than don't totally fill up the car. AGAIN, ABSURD!!!!

I filed a complaint with the NHTSB. The NHTSB reached back out to me and said they have a number of similar complaints and are investigating. However, in order for the NHTSB to be most effective here, everyone with this issue need to file an on-line complaint. Go to https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/VehicleComplaint and make a complaint! This will assist the NHTSB in getting Jeep to do something about this terrible safety problem.

Cherokee Latitude 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 40,300 miles

Having to replace fuel pump at 40,000 miles is crazy, after just replacing engine by JEEP for premature oil usage. In addition, transmission on this car is horrible design. Don't feel like this is safe car on the road and will be looking into getting rid of vehicle soon. I will not buy another JEEP and will be telling all friends and family to steer clear of purchasing as they have not done the right thing with issue of major recalls for this vehicle and engine platform.

Cherokee Limited 3.2L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 51,491 miles

I've only had the vehicle less than 1 month and I've fueled up 2 times now, and every time I fuel up the car shuts off. When turned back on while trying to drive, it starts shaking does not wanting to go. Then check engine light comes along with traction control, problem with transmission and says to put in correct gear and put in park.

This is my 2nd time taking back to dealership since I got it and now the technician says that to stop fueling after 1st click well I didn't over fuel the car after 1st click. Now he says they will look at it and see if it's covered or not. But I'm not going to pay 1 penny on something that's not my fault and not even making my 1st payment yet or even having it 30 days.

This is far the worst vehicle I've ever owned and it being my 1st Jeep, it will definitely be my last after this problem. Doesn't seem like a reliable vehicle in my book too many problems already for a low mileage SUV.

Cherokee Limited 3.2L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 24,500 miles

There should be a recall on this problem of fueling Jeep Cherokee Limited! If you fill gas tank to full, the engine stops and all warning lights come on. When you get going, it stalls at stop lights, stalls in traffic making the vehicle very dangerous and to going to get someone badly hurt or killed. This is something that really needs to be looked into!!!

Cherokee Limited 3.2L V6

This is life threatening. Someone is going to get killed when jeep stalls. If I happen to be that person I hope my family sues the company for millions.

We have appointment with Mike Brown Jeep on 11/14/18. If they can't fix the jeep it is going to be traded in but not far any Jeep product or Dodge.

Cherokee Latitude 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 73,000 miles

The 2014 Jeep Cherokee has had issues that create dangerous driving situations with regards to failing transmissions in traffic and now a fuel pump issue that Jeep will not be responsible for. I feel if this is a known issue it should be covered by Jeep. I am wondering if there is a class action in progress for the fuel pump, as there was for the transmission. I am a longtime Dodge/Chrysler guy but this Jeep issue is making me rethink my automobile maker loyalty.

Cherokee Latitude 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 32,000 miles

This is the 3rd time this has happened. The Jeep idles poorly and randomly dies for 10-20 miles after every fill up lately. This time it died in the middle of a large intersection during traffic as we were taking off from a light. This could get someone killed! Calling the dealer tomorrow.

Cherokee Limited 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 63,000 miles

2014 Cherokee Limited 3.2L V6 , 63,000 miles, garage kept - Jeep had idled rough and died before off and on. Then one day, right after the tank was filled, the car stalled in traffic. "Shift to park" displayed. "Service Transmission" displayed. Was able to re-start the Cherokee and limp to the dealer. They diagnosed that "the roll over valve on the fuel pump stuck open allowing liquid fuel through valve and filled vapor canister and vapor line to purge solenoid."

I asked to speak to the mechanic and asked him if there was a TSB on this issue. He said that they had called and talked with FCA engineers about it but that it hadn't risen to the level of getting a TSB. They replaced the fuel pump and vapor canister. After reading all of the similar issues here, this problem seems prevalent enough for a TSB if not a Recall to me. To charge customers around $1,500 for repairs like this when fuel pumps should last much longer is poor form. Hoping that the new fuel pump and canister will resolve this problem.

It is dangerous for a vehicle to stall in traffic and if it happens again, I'd be very disappointed. My wife or I could have easily been hit by vehicles coming up behind us. We were lucky two times to get it re-started and get off the road.

Cherokee Sport 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 62,821 miles

Every time after filling the tank full of gas the Jeep stalls when stopped. Then "transmission service and Emergency brake service" Pop up on the screen. The car is no longer in gear and it tells me to put it back in park. If it does go into gear its a big clunk and if not the D just flashes. After some time it just works again. This is the third time in a row this has happened. I recently purchased the vehicle used from a dealership who refuses to help out with any of the issues and I suspect I got a lemon.

Cherokee

  • Automatic transmission
  • 23,000 miles

On October 2nd 2016, my 2014 Jeep Cherokee Latitude had to be towed off the road in New Paltz NY (It was subsequently towed into Dutchess Jeep in Poughkeepsie, NY) after the car suddenly started shaking, the lights went on the dashboard , check engine light, check transmission light, etc. then the car stalled. We were told there were recalls that were done as well as computer updates. However the problem reoccurred in December. This time we brought the car to East Hills Jeep in Glenvale, NY. Once again we were told that a recall repair need to be made and some more computer updates. It happened a 3rd time on February 27th 2017 and was once again towed to Dutchess Jeep in Poughkeepsie. This time they have informed me that the

tank was overfilled causing an over flow above the tank into areas that should not have raw fuel. I am adamant that we stop pumping fuel once there is the click. The dealership is refusing to fix the car under warranty. The car currently has 29,719 miles so it is still under the warranty period. I am so frustrated and angry. There is no way over filling a tank should cause a back up into parts unknown. We had the car for over 2 years before this started happening. We didn't suddenly forget how to fill up a tank. In addition, if this problem has been compounding, it is due to the failure of Jeep to properly diagnosis the problem the first time it was towed in. Shame on Jeep to try to blame it on the owner when it is in fact a defect in the workmanship of the car.

Update from Mar 3, 2017: We have been waiting for 3 days for a case manager to get back to us from Jeep. We want the vehicle inspected. this flaw in workmanship could potentially be dangerous gas is escaping the tank.

Update from Sep 22, 2017: It took about 6 weeks to get the car back. After arguing with the corporate office I received a refund for 1/2 the cost of the repair. The total was $1308, reimbursement $654.

My own dealership has admitted they have also seen cars with this problem. Some people believe wheat they are told so this complaint goes unnoticed or unreported.

Cherokee Trailhawk V6

after filling the tank, get multiple error messages

Happened twice shortly after filling up jeep. Car has a seizure, all the parking sensor lights light up and stay lit, told to shift to park and then drive, does not work, cant shut off car, other lights, check engine, Parking, light up along with Service Transmission. Car runs high revs once I can get it going. Seems to correct itself to initially, just a check engine light, but then that disappears after car is shut off for a period of time. Glad I took pictures while driving and most alerts were present to show dealer. I just bought it used, dealer is working hard to resolve it (and absorbing costs), currently in shop with most of the fuel system parts on order, and claim it needs 6 flashes; they have provided a loaner, will give it a chance to get fixed, if not, gonna have to dump it for something else and lose a few bucks due to safety concerns.
