This problem has been repaired once and is back getting another sunroof again. There are two plastic slides which crack over time and allow the glass to rattle. Once the sun roof opens it no longer rattles because it’s not resting on those two plastic tracks.

Cherokee Limited 3.2L V6

The panoramic sunroof has a rattle that was first noticed within the first month (April 2015) and has gotten progressively worse. I have been monitoring car complaints of this issue, noting dealerships have no definitive solution and the problem returns. I don't want to tie my vehicle up for more than a day on a wild goose chase and be stuck with an inferior rental car. No TSBs have been issued for this problem. I have been waiting for a recall part to arrive at the dealership to report the problem and begin the goose hunt. I am not optimistic. Every other aspect of this Jeep Cherokee Limited is outstanding. Design, craftsmanship, comfort, handling, response and top of the line safety features make the $38K price worth it. This constant rattle glitch is out of character for such a fine vehicle.

Update from Jun 12, 2016: Update: took to Jeep Dealership for repair along with other maintenance on 3/9/2016. The jeep was kept for an additional day just for the sunroof rattle. They could not find any defects so they lubricated the sunroof weather strips and body. The rattle was gone for about one week, then returned slowly and within a month was back to the same effect as before. Am planning to return for another check, but from the looks of other complaints, feel this will never be resolved. Besides some transmission anomalies, this remains an outstanding vehicle. I would just really like this incessant rattle to go away.

Update from Jun 20, 2016: On 6/15/16 I had the problem checked again by the dealership. In their search process, they included loosening the rear seat @floor, lubbing the track and reinstalling, removed the headliner, and mention of a TSB or "Star Case" which was identified as #$523000016. They thought they had fixed the rattle, but I heard it right after return. I was intrigued by the rear seat work and sat in the back as my girlfriend drove. From that exercise, I concluded that the sunroof indeed was OK and not the source of the rattle. Sitting on either side of the back seat did not alter the rattle but I found that sitting on the MIDDLE of the rear seat actually limited the rattle!

I will be reporting this to the dealership and also revising this complaint to the proper area.

Agree with other writers... loud obnoxious noise for the sunroof when closed. 3rd time into the dealer... got it back 2 days ago and the rattling is even louder. They admit it's unacceptable... Good dealership - they will rent me a vehicle when bringing it in next week. Told them they can keep the car until it's fixed... I just don't want to keep going back for the same thing over & over. Brand new Trailhawk with every available option shouldn't be a >$30k headache.

Btw... will post other issues separately - heater tubes were 'tangled' resulting in not heat (has since been replaced), U-connect has cut out twice...

Truck is a great (on paper)... I'm hoping the issues all came to light early & it's not evidence of what to expect going forward.

Ridiculous that we have had this car less than 3 weeks and already giving it to service for the past 2 days!

Brand new Jeep Limited Cherokee and the car has a rattling sound that even the body shop manager at my dealership could not figure out where it is coming from. I believe it is from sunroof and it rattles when going slow and over bumps. Do not notice it when driving at higher speed. Sad to pay over $30k for a vehicle and you get to hear noise from your sunroof.

Sunroof squeaks and rattles when closed. When open, there is a SEVERE vibration in the top half of the body that has actually rattled the overhead light and sunroof control box to come completely loose and hang by the wires. The vibration is so bad it actually hurts your head and ears. Rolling the window down helps a bit. This on a brand new 40K vehicle is ludicrous.

After only two weeks of buying this Jeep new, there is now a very annoying rattling type of noise coming from the sunroof. I've searched Google for this and there are plenty of others who have the exact same issue. Here is one link of many where owners are discussing this: http://jeepcherokeeclub.com/4-2014-2015-jeep-cherokee-general-discussion/20265-sunroof-rattle.html

All owners have reported that they've taken this into the dealership to get fixed but the noise returns within days/weeks. Some users have taken it in up to six separate times and the issue still persists.

The noise is extremely annoying and can be heard clearly over average radio listening volume. The noise is only present while the sunroof is fully closed. If opened partially, fully, or in the vent mode, the issue goes away.
