While driving on I476 at about 70 mph (the speed limit), a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS} light appeared on the dash indicating a low tire pressure. This vehicle is a 2010 Jeep Commander with approximately 86,500 miles. The car has been located in north east Pennsylvania for its entire life. The tire was replaced with the spare tire. When the tire was inspected by a mechanic to determine if it is repairable.

While attempting to reinflate the tire, the stem was found missing and therefore the tire could not be tested. The tire was removed from the wheel and the stem was located inside the wheel. The mechanic states that the TPMS sensor nut was missing and appeared to have corroded and failed. This is a major safety concern due to the speed of the vehicle and the abrupt failure of the component.
