1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 39000 miles fuel pump failure resulting in engine failure in the middle of a busy intersection. This vehicle is only 3 years old with low mileage, it should not require a new fuel pump costing owner $500 in towing, parts and labor. Dealer where vehicle was purchased was of no help!

Defective design of the front and rear differential which makes a "whining noise" and cause the metal to be shaved off. Dealer had to replace both differential. Front and rear differentials were replaced. The fuel leak was caused by fuel pump module failure.

While driving on interstate in traffic vehicle cut off. It was not out of gas. Took vehicle to dealer, and they informed consumer that it was the fuel sending unit that had just been replaced on Sept 4th 1997. Dealer replaced the sending unit. Then 2years later, it went out again.

NHTSA recall campaign 97V194000, there is a recall for these vehicles. Chrysler co. Said that my VIN does not show up on their db search as one of the recalled vehicle. However, my car is having the same problem as stated and the car was built on the dates that was stated on the recall (97V194000). Thanks.

Driving up a very steep hill at night. Car starts to buck wildly, loose power, RPM goes constantly from 300 to 2000. Seems fuel starved. Over hill, engine seems to run fine. Then on highway at 70 mph, engine shuts itself off, twice within half hour. Dealer says computer chip and replaces, but not fixed. Then says fuel pump. Replaces. Now six weeks later, same thing happening to car. Not fuel gauge problem, as tank 3/4 full.

Vehicle stalls without warning. Owner & dealer claim that fuel pump is defective. Dealers are aware of this problem. Owner is very concerned. The consumer cites reports in media of about a dozen owners who had experienced the same problem in state of New York.
