What a lemon! we are averaging $2000/year in repairs. Power windows that stop working, water pump breaks, brake rotors need replacing before brakes wear out, leaking differential, transmission, and now we're told by dealer service department we need a new transfer case. Whoever designed/built/sold this vehicle doesn't have much pride in their workmanship.

My 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo had a new differential install edat 15,000 miles; two new front rotors at 36,000 and should have been done way before this; back brake drum cracked at 36,000 miles; front rotors redone again at 42000 miles; and now the motor at 52,000 miles. We had not indication (noise, etc) of the motor going, I was traveling aroung 5-10 miles per hour turning into our road and it felt like something heavy dropped out of the vehicle, it sounded like metal going through a fan. A piece of the block fell out onto the road and the people at the local dealer said they had never seen any thing like it before. It was like a bomb went off inside the motor. My question -- should chyrsler be responsible for this motor, it will be in the range of $6,000. Thank you.

I have taken my Jeep Cherokee numerous times to have an engine knock...a whining noise and a banging noise checked out. Everyone except the service people can hear these noises. I was told by a mechanic that used to work for Chrysler that they know there is a problem with the engine and the transmission and that they are not acknowledging it. I watched the today show on August 4th and heard about the problems that exist with the transmission on the Jeep Cherokee and became concerned. I have repeatedly voiced these concerns to the service department and also spoke to a Chrysler rep directly in a 3 way conversation. I was told that they would have my complaint on file. The whining and banging noise has now turned into a grinding noise that I am afraid is effecting the power train to the point that it will fail. The service dept. Has replaced (unnecessarily) the shocks, the battery, and the drive shaft, saying that this will remedy the problem. It has not>

Rear differential rebuilt twice, thus far. Dealer indicated common problem on this vehicle. Am in process of tradining vehicle in, as I don't want to experience this problem again. Having to pay $5,000 for negative equity, but worth every penny. Manufacturer should seriously consider recall of vehicle.
