Have a 2000 Jeep gc. Driver's seat wobbly for several years. Finally realized the track was fractured in multiple places and got a new one. In chaining out the tracks, noticed that the seat frame is also fractured in multiple places. Seat now being held on by two partially torn pieces of metal. Only driver since the day it was new. 200 lbs.

The drivers seat in my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee became wobbly and eventually broke from the frame. When it broke, I was driving and ended up flying forward and to the right. The dealer says it is over $1000 to replace the seat. I currently have it secured with zip ties, but these will probably not hold the seat in place if I am in a car accident. It seems that this is a very common problem and there should be a recall.

2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 6 point adjustable power driver's seat. The brackets on the left side of the power seat adjuster (the brackets that hold the top of the adjuster to the bottom) broke on July 3, 2009 under normal breaking at a traffic light. Basically the left side of the seat now just floats around. If the corresponding brackets on the right side go, the seat will be free of the vehicle and I'll be driving from the back. I was willing to write this off as a one off problem, but that's just not the case. This is such a common issue that I'm unable to find a replacement from a salvage yard. The dealer wants $800 to replace the assembly (the entire assembly must be replaced as it's not available in its individual components) which just is not possible at this point. This is a serious safety issue. If the seat were to completely break away at 75 mph (interstate speed where I am), imagine the catastrophic event that would occur. I've gotten a hold of a used 10 point adjustable driver's seat from a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee and am hoping I can make it work, but at this point, the issue is not resolved. If the one from the 2001 Jeep can't be made to work, I may be forced to convert it to a manual seat as the brackets for a manual seat are affordable new.

Frame to driver's seat is broken. The seat is now apparently out of the track and cannot be adjusted with the temporary fix in place. Seat is now tilted at an angle, and moves when vehicle is in motion, making it an unsafe position for the driver to be in.

The front driver seat broke. I paid to have it repaired. I was told that the piece fixed as best as could, but that unable to repair 100%. a new seat was needed. New seats are $700 plus. Eventually the seat broke worse than first time. I have to seat erect with no back support, unable to move the seat forward or backward. I have fibromylagia and sitting in this position while driving is almost impossible, I am a single mom and do not have the money for a new set. I am at a lost at what to do.

He noticed that the seat wobbled prior to the failure, but no repairs were made at that time. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that the seat brackets and the seat failed. The repair would cost $800. No repairs have been made and the contact is in the process of notifying the manufacturer. The VIN was unavailable. The failure mileage was 130,000 and current mileage was 137,000.

I have a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo and I am having issues with the drivers side seat. It has broken and I have fixed it and broken again. I took it to my repair shop for welding an when they took it out they found it was only being held together by fabric. I understand that vehicle parts have a lifespan and some require that they be replaced. The frame of the drivers seat should not be one of them. I'm looking at a $400-500.00 repair that I should not be responsible for. This is a serious safety issue that should have been resolved through a recall. The price for the replacement frame is over $300, not counting labor. I have looked at complaints online and this issue seems to be very common. You can't even find replacement seats at salvage yards. The big three have been underegineering vehicle parts for years for the purpose of future parts and vehicle sales. This approach is a major reason they are in the mess that they are in. The government, instead of throwing more billions at them needs to hold them accountable, especially in an instance like this where me and my families safety has been compromised.

The seat tracks on my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee failed. The seat started to seem loose, then the metal brackets broke into, when I stepped on the gas the seat tipped backwards. It cannot be repaired and must be replaced. I just informed Chrysler about the problem and of course they told me to take it to one of their service departments. They will not pay for it.

He was uninjured and took the vehicle to the repair shop. The mechanic stated that the brackets failed, but they would not weld the brackets back together because they believe it will not correct the failure. The failure mileage was 120,000 and current mileage was 125,000.

2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee passenger seat severely overheats. I like warmth, but this is uncomfortable to be sitting up against. As a side note, the driver side seat warmer doesn't work. The seat heats excessively every time it is on. We have not has this repaired at this time.

He had the seat welded back together; however, the failure recurred in a different location. The failure was repaired, but the entire seat needs to be repaired. There have been several complaints for this component. The dealer has not yet been notified. Chrysler cannot assist with this issue. The contact was very concerned about this being a safety hazard. The failure mileage was 160,000 and current mileage was 179,000.

The contact owns a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving approximately 35 mph, the driver's side seat bracket that connects the seat to the vehicle's structure failed due to metal fatigue. The contact did not observe any fatigue prior to the failure. The failure caused a near crash and he pulled over to the side of the road. The contact noticed that the front driver's side brackets failed and caused the seat to lean towards the passenger seat. He was able to drive the vehicle to his residence at the time, but the vehicle is currently unable to be driven. The vehicle has not been taken to the dealer and the manufacturer has not been notified. The current mileage is 104,000 and failure mileage was 102,000. Updated 11/14/08. Updated 11/18/08.
