i bought an extended warranty on this vehicle. took it to the jeep dealer so it could be repaired correctly since I still owe on the vehicle. I have only had it about six months. the jeep overheated and shut down. when checked it had leaked out all the water in the radiator. let vehicle cool down and put water in the radiator and the vehicle started up, but it made a noise. had to replace the hose and put in a new thermostat. was still making the noise and took it to jeep to look at. they said it would cost 9000 to have fixed(needed an new motor) the # 5 solenoid was bad. I have heard the overheating was a common problem with jeeps. my extended warranty would not cover this because they said it was do to a hose blowing and they do not cover this. I just thought is was odd that they gave me back my money for the policy that I have already paid into it. if there is a common problem with overheating they should be doing a recall and fix the problem. I really loved my jeep.

I can't stand the repeated failures of FCA. They have claimed they know nothing of this engine failure issue. My valve seat dropped and this is an issue my mechanic had seen several times on other Jeep vehicles. It is the result of a cheap, faulty part. More specifically, the valve seat is made of a powdered metal that, at high temperatures and stress, can basically explode in the cylinder. This is a tiny piece of metal that should not be able to bring down an entire engine. FCA has failed once again, Now I need to figure out how I'm going to get a brand new engine!

Bought a used Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited from a reputable Jeep dealer in town. Vehicle was inspected by the dealership prior to being put on the lot. Owned the Jeep for 8 months keeping scheduled maintenance on vehicle. Vehicle began to run rough and immediately overheated. Pulled vehicle over and determined that the water pump went bad. I had vehicle towed to Jeep dealer who determine that the rocker arm separated, from the valve, and dropped into the cylinder. The damage caused metal to metal contact in the #8 cylinder.

Price for a new engine is not worth the vehicle value

I believe that this problem was a build issue since the rocker arm separated from the valve rod.

A brand new engine only a month after purchasing this vehicle?!? What is going on Jeep?

To this day, I am still not sure I fully understand what actually happened to my engine and what caused it to seize up on me. From what I was told, many things went wrong, and it all started with a small crack that leaked coolant into the oil, which apparently seemed to cause the oil to basically leak out nice and slowly (so slow, I didn't even notice it). This caused my engine to run hot, but because some sensors weren't working, I never had any indication of this until i began to smell something burning. I pulled off immediately, but it was too late. The friction without oil became so hot, it had all melted into itself. I was told that there had already been signs of significant damage to the engine prior to my little episode, so this could have very well been the previous owners, but I have had far too many issues with this vehicle to even begin to think that it was anything other than the manufacturer, Jeep.

Out of the dozens of vehicles I have owned over my life time, I have never seen something like this to happen without warning.

Grand Cherokee Rocky Mountain 3.7L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 102,000 miles

I have kept up with maintenance of my 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee and just spent $1800.00 on new tires, brakes, struts, getting vehicle ready for winter. Within 2 weeks of doing this, valve spring broke in engine, dropped cylinder and killed engine. Valve spring broke through valve cover, causing oil to leak on hot spots and started fire. Now having to replace engine. Vehicle is in excellent condition.
