My dash leather started bubbling on my Jeep grand Cherokee. In the middle, the leather is too short to cover the dash next to vent. It is short by 1/4". The dealership quoted $2000+. It is a clearly a manufacturers defect. I live in texas so it does get hot, but the glue to hold it down should have been specified for that. I chatted with customer care and called them and they will not help with the price of the repair. I am very disappointed by there lack of care for the quality of there product.

This is the most I have ever spent on a car and I would think the quality of the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland would have out rated the less expensive cars that I have purchased. At ~40,000 miles and 4 yrs, my leather dashboard started bubbling and wrinkling. I live in Florida, but I have always been good about parking in the garage and keeping my dashboard covered. The warranty ran out at 3/36,000. Very disappointed, especially after reading similar complaints.

The leather dash began to lift on my wife's 2011 Grand Cherokee Overland (9811 miles) one year after I purchased it. The leather reattachment repair which was done on December 18th, 2012 held for less than 2 years before starting to lift again. As of December 17, 2014 I am still in discussion with the Service Manager in St Petersburg FL who in turn says he is contacting a higher authority to approve another repair. I strongly feel this is a known problem with this vehicle and Jeep should have the decency to honor there workmanship especially after it was suppose to be fixed once already. Hopefully Jeep cares enough about their reputation, customer service and satisfaction track record to fix this.

Update from Aug 12, 2015: I took the 2011 Overland in for service August 5th, 2015 and discussed again with the Service Manager about the detached and bubbling leather dash board and he said he would again raise the problem with a higher authority with in the Jeep corporation. Let's see.

About 2 years ago the dash on my 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland started coming loose and peeling up. Couldn't get Jeep or Johnson's of Chickasha to to stand by their product. It's time for me to buy my wife a new vehicle and she has picked out the new Jeep Summit with all the bells and whistles. I have told her "absolutely not!" Jeep and the dealer told me that this was heat damage and there for my fault, so I have decided that I can not do business with cheats and scammers that sell an inferior products for premium prices. So now her new hobby is to try and get Jeep to own up to their obligation to cover a factory defect so I will buy her a new Summit. Good luck with that Dear!

Grand Cherokee Overland 5.6L

So, I just wanted to report my experience. (Sorry for those that did not have an easy time as I).

I brought in my Jeep, which had similar problem as others here. The dash was bubbling up, and just looked awful. When I brought it in, it was not covered by the 3 year warranty, although I was still under the 5 year power train warranty.

The warranty specialist, like others, said this was not covered by warranty, and that out of pocket would be $2000 to repair.

So, I asked them to hold onto the car, while I got in contact with Jeep customer care. I called them, and explained the situation. As this particular problem is not related to abuse of the vehicle, mileage, or any otherwise customer caused problem, I stated that I believed this to be a manufacturer's defect, and I did not feel right as a customer to pay for such a repair. In my opinion, this defect was caused by incorrect or faulty glue used to glue the leather to the dash. Over time, in the sun, the glue starts deteriorating, and comes undone. (Just my theory). But, what kind of car isn't designed to sit in the sun for hours on end? (Dealership parking lots, workplaces, etc. etc. Cars sit in the sun. I've never heard of a car that has a limit of "sun time") Definitely a defect, right?

After speaking with Jeep customer care, they called the dealership where I had brought the car into. I think this is probably a very important part- Go to a dealership that is known for good customer care. The dealership backed me, and told Jeep customer care that the car was in great shape (Which is mostly true, a few dings here and there-nothing related to the problem at hand), and there was no indication that this was a customer caused issue.

Long story short, customer care comped the repair, and I went on my merry way with a new dash. I was definitely one of the lucky ones in this bunch. I'm very happy with what happened, and I hope this story can help others fix this manufacturer's defect.

Filed a complaint with Jeep. Been working on it for weeks after getting the run around from the dealership. Not happy with their "help" so far. I see I'm not the only one with this problem. It is obviously a manufacturer defect with the glue holding the leather on the dash. I have a 74 Fiat parked right in front of it that has NO dash damage!!!! How is it my 2011 Jeep is so bad? They've claimed it's heat damage. But it's the ONLY one of my vehicles (and we have 5 Dodge/Jeep vehicles) with this problem.

Customer care is 800-763-8422. Maybe if they get enough calls they'll do something.

I've had every issue mentioned with my Overland since I bought it, I love the vehicle however the build quality and "bugs" have made me decide never to buy the Jeep brand again. I currently have 2 Wranglers and the Overland and when these die, I'm done with Jeep........

I have a 2011 Overland and the passenger side of my dash is becoming unglued and bubbly. Now the plastic trim piece for the defrost vent is coming up. I have taken it to several Auto/Trim repair shops and told that they will not touch it and to contact Jeep to see if there is a recall or for restitution on this. I use my Jeep for business and have customers in it everyday so I want it to look nice. Right now Jeep is getting some pretty negative advertisement from mine! I bought the Jeep from Helfman River Oaks in Houston and they have not had good customer service so I will take it to another dealership and see what help they will offer, but since it's out of warranty I don't expect much. Anyone else with this problem have advice???

Grand Cherokee Overland 3.2L

  • 60,000 miles

I have a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee it had 60,000 miles. In 2013 the dash board began to bubble up, not to bad to start with but as time moved on it got worse. I took it in to the local Jeep dealer in 2014 with around 100,000 miles and they had a factory rep. look at the damage and said this was a "factory defect", but sorry could not do anything about the problem, too many miles. Since when does it make a difference on miles on a dash board? I really like this car and was going to get a new one (30 MPG), but if factory defects can't be taken care of, I'm buying something else.

Purchase vehicle used, first didn't see the dash was wrinkling and getting worse. Called customer support because extended warranty would not cover. After talking to customer support, all they would say that they are sorry. I tried to explain that this is a Manufacture Deflect and they should fix it. They won't even help with the cost. This will be the last Daimler Chrysler vehicle that I will ever own.

I noticed the bubbles in the leather Overland dash just after warranty ran out. The car is always under cover at home and work. From what I have read about many others with same issue I am sure Jeep will not replace but I am extremely disappointed and embarrassed to put down the most money I ever did for a car and believe I was moving up to what I thought was a luxury vehicle to be totally disappointed in a USA made product. Shame on you Jeep. I have many more posts to make about other issues but one at a time!

Took into the dealership thinking it would be covered under my extended warranty, and they said it was not and it would need to be paid out of pocket. The price was $2400 and then they stated that they would call customer care to see if they could help with the cost. I have not heard back yet. I agree, you pay for the top of the line Jeep and it clearly is a defect that should be taken care of.

Car was purchased in Nov of 2011; top of the line vehicle with all the bells and whistles. Vehicle generally does all that Jeep said it would do. However the quality on the vehicle is horrible.

Early on the pain on the hood showed deterioration. Jeep said it was due to 'environmental issues'...bird poop. Car can climb mountains, drive through rivers 3 feet deep but don't let a bird poop on it. Took 6 months of harassing the dealer and Jeep corporate before they finally agreed to repair the hood. The seat back on the drivers side continually popped loose and it needed to be replaced. Dealer agreed to the repair but again it took nearly 6 months to get the part and then install. The carpeting in the cargo area of the vehicle came loose from the floor; dealer agreed to replace it...6 months to get the parts.

The most recent issue is the leather dash is bubbling. Clearly the vehicle is out of warranty, 40,000 miles, but the leather dash on a $50,000 vehicle should not be coming loose. I suspect they used poor gluing techniques and clearly they should be responsible but based on my previous experiences,I doubt they will step up. This is my first jeep and clearly will be the last. The service departments have been less than helpful and Chrysler Corp quality standards are way below what they should be.

leather dashboard is bubbling/wrinkling up

This car is three years old and over $55,000 new. The leather on the dashboard is completely separating from the dashboard itself it not only looks horrible but the dealership said it's only going to get worse. I have an extended warranty the best one they sell but it does not cover it. Dealership told me to call customer care directly because they could not help me. Currently waiting for them to get back to me but I'm not holding my breath. Dealership said it would cost about $3000 to fix. Are you f---ing kidding me.

Update from Jan 18, 2015: After six months of going back-and-forth with customer care they finally agreed to completely replace my dashboard for $650. it was not the best outcome but better than looking at the terrible dashboard or paying the $3500 out of pocket to replace it myself. I work for a lawyer who is certain that I would've won the case in small claims court but I did not feel like going through that hassle. Jeeps biggest issue was I had almost 70,000 miles on the vehicle even though it was only a few years old but this isn't a mileage issue so I did not feel that should matter at all. anyway I can live with the outcome and will let you know how it turns out in the end when it's all done and replaced. My suggestion is to call customer care and keep calling customer care and keep calling customer care and imply legal action on many occasions and eventually they will come around. My dashboard was not nearly as bad as some of the others but still they helped me out considerably.

Grand Cherokee Overland

I am really upset of the quality of the Grand Jeep Cherokee dash. It is bubbling and wrinkling in several places. The company refuses to assist in repairing it since it is beyond 36k miles. I have a friend who has the same vehicle with the same exact issue. The repairs are estimated at $2500. Now if I don't fix this I will take approximately $3000 loss in value.

This is a manufacturer defect. I am disappointed in the lack of customer service. I will never buy another Jeep or Chrysler product again.
