Grand Cherokee Laredo 2.6L V6

For one month, the driver's side heater and air conditioner was not working. Air would blow out but there wouldn't be any heat or cold air, which was highly crucial during the bay area 30 degree mornings. Meanwhile, the passenger air vents functioned perfectly. I took my car to two body shops, none of which were able to figure out the problem or wanted to take the time to figure it out. Thus, I took my car to the Putnam Chrysler Jeep Dodge Dealer to get this fixed. My warranty had expired 3 months prior. They found out that the front left door 1 control circuit door would not move to switch the temperature for the driver side. Because all other doors for the vent work, the dealership recommended reporting this as a defective part that was placed in the car. I am extremely disappointed by this inconvenience and damage, not to mention I just graduate from college and was not expecting to receive this kind of cost on a fairly new car with 20k miles.

In Oct 2015, going to work, a horrid smell came from the AC Vents while AC was on. It filled the cabin. It was the smell of Freon or something worse. I took it home and shut off the AC. The next day I turned it back on and the cold air was fluctuating with not so cold air. I lost my solid cold air at all settings. No more cold cold air. Since then it has been in the shop three times about it and they cannot find anything. This last time I took it was after I filed a BBB complaint stating I am loosing time off work and need it fixed. The computer they hook it up to shows nothing. This last time week of 6/1, the hooked it up to the computer, nothing..they checked for leaks, nothing. They checked gauges, nothing. They now have dye in my lines and want me to drive it then bring back in to see if a leak shows they cannot see. Now, since I have it back, I have lost all cold cold air, it is no longer fluctuating but the solid cold air I had is now gone. It blows consistently but no solid cold air. They cannot find the issue. The service tech felt the fluctuating but no idea what is causing it. Now that it is gone, and so is my cold air, it must go back again. This will be the 5th time for this one issue.

First happened last month. All the climate control functions went on by themselves when I turned system on. Heater, A/C, fan on high, defrosters (front and rear). Wouldn't turn off. Temp went up to "High" and whether I used the U-Connect screen or the manual controls to try to lower it went up again & again until it finally settled at 75. Nothing would turn off. Shut off engine & restarted several times, same problem. Then suddenly it went back to normal. Took it to dealer. It worked fine. They said if it happens again bring it in. I did. They ordered and replaced a module of some kind a week and a half ago, and it worked fine--until today, and it did it again. Only this time it took a lot longer until I could finally get it to shut down. I have a dealer service appointment for next Thursday. I don't know what they replaced, but whatever it was, it obviously didn't solve the problem. This is the first issue I have had with my Grand Cherokee since I bought it in October 2013. I have 14700+ miles on it, and I thought I was really lucky. But now, I know what people are complaining about. I can't be the only person having this problem. Is there anyone out there who can offer a solution?

Update from Dec 19, 2015: The dealer finally was able to fix the problem. I learned that the first repair was replacement of the Center Stack, which made no sense to me, because everything the Center Stack operated worked fine except Climate Control and Defrost/Defogger functions. When I returned to the dealer with the same complaint, this time they ordered and replaced the under-the-hood controller for Climate Control and Defrost/Defogger functions. To play it safe they also again replaced the Center Stack. Now everything works fine. This situation is the only issue I have had with my '14 Grand Cherokee Limited, and now that it is fixed, I hope to continue enjoying the vehicle.

Well this new problem on top of all the other things wrong with this heap.... AC/heat only works on drivers side. Passenger side no matter what you do only blows air.... just noticed it today and I don't know how long this has been going on. Off to my 10th visit to the mechanic since November 2014... for Jeep to tell me there is nothing wrong and that all new vehicles act this way..... HATE MY JEEP. I tell everyone I know to never buy a Jeep. If you are researching into buying one... AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

I took my vehicle into Chrysler Jeep Dealership in Grapevine, TX on Monday, March 23 with three complaints and need of recall work. (Three complaints: transmission jerking into gear, heater control will not maintain temp control properly---either extremely hot on Hi and cold air on ALL other temp selections, flashlight in back compartment inop). There were software updates on both transmission and heater issue. However, before leaving the dealership, and while in the parking lot, I determined the heater control head is still not maintaining proper temperature.

On Thursday, March 24, I drove the vehicle with the Service Mgr (Steve J.). Steve and I both experienced the issue whereby the driver side has a substantial reduction of air blowing out the ducts as compared to the passenger side. Furthermore, cold air started blowing out of the driver's side when a warm temp was selected. In addition, the Mrg (Steve J) and I also experienced and noted that at times there was absolutely NO air blowing out at all on the driver's side while the passenger side seemed to be working okay. Needless to say, since the Mgr (STEVE J) acknowledged the problem and he got to witness the issues I was complaining about first hand, he told me he would personally write up the issues that we saw and I was told to remain in the rental car. On Saturday, March 28th, I received an incoming call from the Mgr (Steve J). He told me he came in on his day off to call me. He stated on the phone that the Engineers were called at Chrysler and that Chrysler acknowledged there was a problem but no fix at this time. He also told me that once enough people complain about this issue that they would probably start working on the problem.

I just recently moved from East Coast to Texas and had I been in the PA area on one of the roads whereby people got stranded in the cold this winter, this issue could prove to be extremely dangerous to one's well being. I told him to properly document the issue and put down exactly what Chrysler said so I could take to a lawyer. My paperwork was not properly documented and was extremely vague when the tech wrote up the issues on Monday, March 24. The Mgr. (Steve) told me he would make sure the paperwork was documented properly. Upon my arrival to pick-up my vehicle, my paperwork did not reflect what he had told me on the phone. In fact, he told me that he could NOT change the service order because it was already closed out. After 14+ minutes of going back and forth, and although he acknowledged the problems and that he still thinks it's a problem, he told me he could not throw parts at this problem because Chrysler would not reimburse him for the cost.

Since he refused to properly document the paperwork so I can have an actual record, we got into a heated conversation. Integrity is huge to me and the fact that he refused to properly document the response of the complaints that he himself witnessed at first hand bothers me extremely and then to not properly document my paperwork with what he told me Chrysler said makes me extremely disappointed. The fact that he acknowledges that there is a problem, but then back peddles with his response makes me really frustrated. It's a shame that a Texas guy can't do the right thing and properly document the issue and properly document the response that was communicated to me on the phone with Chrysler acknowledging the problem but not providing a fix until more people complain. Shame on Chrysler Jeep and shame on this Grapevine Dealership!

The air conditioning has no control whatsoever. No matter what temperature I set the system on, it blows cold air. The only way I can get it to change is to set the system on "HI", in which case it blows the hottest air possible. The air is so hot that it is uncomfortable to even aim the vent at myself. So, the system doesn't control the temperature at all. I get two choices: surface of the sun or I might as well have the windows down during the winter.

This vehicle has been a major disappointment.

The temperature control does not work, the interior get so warm that the only fix is either to turn the climate control completely off or by pressing the max button, I have reported this to the dealer many times and he says it is normal. I say BS then why have a temperature control that absolutely does nothing

The temp setting makes no difference between 80 and 60, they are all above 80 degrees anyway, the only time I get colder comfortable air is below 60, which is the only other setting called LO.

The vehicle is simply too hot, and I applied a thermometer by the air vent to check on the cabin temperature and it read 94 degrees at all times! While I lower the temperature to different settings, the 94 remains until I actually put it into LO (the lowest setting available)

Really is annoying not to be able to set the temp!
