Grand Cherokee Overland V-6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 13,500 miles

By trial, error and many white hair moments which included two snowbanks used for 'Emergency Braking' I came to the realization that my 2014 JGC Overland/sport with 18 'Brainiac's', aka computers, running the show was that they couldn't compute anything the tires were doing in winter highway conditions while in Drive or Snow mode.

While in a oft 'Couldn't Be Worse' frame of mind, pissed, I forgot about the 'Oh, Yes it Can!' feature (not optional) in JGC's and tried using the +/- 'Paddle Shifters'. The effect was immediate but using them does take some getting used to. The one on the left is - a gear and you are probably aware of it because its the one accidentally hit when messing with window washing and then wondering why your engine is roaring and the tach is 'red lining'. The one on the right is + a gear, it is the one that blocks your view of the wee little speedometer that tells you the speed you'll actually be going for, like 120, when you release the + button thinking 55 in 'Cruise Control'.

If in drive and you come into foul conditions and slow you can safely press the + button to find out what gear you're in and then act accordingly. Hitting - will drop one gear at a time until you feel connected to the conditions, it is noticeable. Accelerating using + go one + past your speed when feeling squirrelly, relieves the torque. For slowing to almost a stop keep hitting - to 1st gear and then use the brakes for the last bit. Happy Sledding!

Grand Cherokee Summit 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 72,345 miles

While driving down I-85 north today, there was stop and go traffic. While doing 65 mph, I had to come to an abrupt stop to avoid hitting the vehicle in front of me. I pressed the brakes all the way to the floor and it did not respond on contact. I didn't have an accident but it was enough to make me paranoid the rest of the drive. My Forward Collision activated at the last minute as well. I think this was the reason the vehicle actually STOPPED!!!!

Today I was was driving around running errands. I went into a store for 20 minutes, came out and started the car when I noticed that I couldn't push down on the brake pedal as it was STIFF! I drove forward to test the brakes and my car lunged forward and wouldn't stop even though my foot was on the brake. I'm so lucky that I was on a flat surface and was only going 3 miles per hour. I can't even imagine if this occurred while driving on a busy street.

I had the car towed to the Jeep dealership in Cenntenial, CO to check to see if this is a re-call issue. I'm so frustrated because 25 years ago my life was put in danger while driving when the alternator went out!!!! Thank god I was on a side road with no cars next to me as my car became possessed and suddenly died after jerking, lights flickering, radio going off in the middle of the street.

I'm really hoping that Jeep will honor it's "recall of a recall" and do the right thing. I don't want to have to pay for a new braking system when this is the faulty product.

Grand Cherokee Limited 3.6L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 32,330 miles

I approached a pickup truck making an emergency stop at a RR crossing. When I stepped on the brake pedal hard, the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee kept moving forward, colliding with the rear end of the pickup truck. I was traveling at a very slow rate of speed. Other than a broken taillight lens, there was very little damage to the pickup. But, because the front end of the GC is mostly plastic, a significant amount of it was broken, causing an insurance claim. The brake booster was on a Jeep recall, but I do not know if the brake failure is related.

Grand Cherokee Summie V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 67,000 miles

Driving only about 20 MPH, car in front stopped suddenly in city traffic. I tried to brake, plus the auto-braking system activated, and brakes were not responsive. I jammed my foot on the brake pedal so hard that my foot still hurts over a week later. Still couldn't stop before hitting the car in front of me. Clearly, something wrong with the brakes, which resulted in an accident.

Noise started while on highway, heard it over the traffic while driving. Stopped the car and called Jeep Assistance. After 8 hours waiting they still didn't arrive. I drove home. They only arrived today, 5 hours later and told me its normal and the car can be driven like this.......

  • Automatic transmission

This has occurred to me numerous times and has also occurred to my girlfriend, who was driving me vehicle for the day. She ended up rear ending another car which is extremely dangerous. I had this occur at speeds upwards to 75mph on the highway in rush hour traffic, which could have caused some serious damage, had I not kept the proper amount of distance between myself and the other drivers on the road and is extremely dangerous and unacceptable.

Grand Cherokee Overland 3.6L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 15,000 miles

Leaving a parking lot and attempted to yield to oncoming traffic, the brake pedal was depressed 100% and the car was not stopping, the driver swerved back into the parking lot and the car took about 20 - 30 feet to stop. After the car was towed to a local dealership they replaced the brake booster with a newly designed one that has a build in "water shield" to keep water from entering the brake system. There is a recall for this problem but the recall does not cover all 2014 Grand Cherokees. The recall only covers the earlier models and the dealer even said they should have recalled all of them. The brakes felt fine prior to the incident, there were no signs or warnings that this would happen. Drive safe everyone.

Grand Cherokee Limited 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 4,000 miles

I tried to stop for a vehicle that was stopped to make a left hand turn in front of me. I pushed on my brakes and basically had to stand on them and it didn't stop timely. The brakes pushed back against my foot so hard that it caused my shoe to cut my foot and my foot swelled from the pressure that I was applying. I was only going 35 mph and the damage to my vehicle and the other vehicle was very minimal. My two kids were okay.

Less than a week later, the brakes started squealing and then were soft. It is still at the dealership with no fix yet to be determined.
