problem #2

Jan 192020

Grand Cherokee Limited 3.5L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 76,200 miles

I have a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee. It has been to the dealership for the fourth time in less than 2 months with batteries going completely dead. After $1,500 and tow bills, it is still there. The dealer has replaced the batteries, alternator and tested it many times.

Grand Cherokee Laredo 3.6L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 336 miles

Driving this morning on the road, as usual, enjoying my weekend drive on the highway. Stopped at the traffic light and engine shut down as the standard engine stop/start, but this time the engine didn't start. It will shift from Drive, nothing but blinking gauges and the sound of the starter clicking not turning. Shut down the radio and auto lights off, forced the gear into N and pressed the start switch again and it worked with a warning message on dash stating to "park soon, the car will shut down". Went on the side of the road and YES it shut down after 15min.

I carry with me a portable battery jumper so I used it to jump start from the engine compartment but no power was reaching, so I lifted the passenger seat to gain access to battery and attached the jumper cables to the main battery and still no life, so I connected it to the auxiliary battery and "Woop There it Is" Life came back o the Jeep...

My 2017 Jeep G.C has 300 miles only and this happened.. Extremely frustrated but glad it happened when i was parked and not on the highway as the steering freezes and the transmission loses power whenever the battery drops below 9 volts... Lucky this time BUT WORRIED that this could happen to any one..

Update from Nov 22, 2018: At 200miles, Main Dealership replaced both the main battery and auxiliary battery on the Jeep but the problem persisted. no power was reaching the vehicle what so ever. further investigation showed that the main electric ground box was burnt and TOASTED. the cause was a Bad Battery cell in the main battery that malfunctioned and shorted the Main ground electric Block. the Jeep drives really fine now with 700 miles, and volt reading is stable at 14.0V-14.2V where previously it registered only 13.2V-13.5V since the time the car was purchased new.

Thank you Jeep
