problem #2

Apr 162014

Liberty V6

  • Manual transmission
  • 92,000 miles

After driving about 2 hrs in cruise control at 75 mph my EPS light would come on. Within 15 to 20 mins the "Serv 4WD" light would come on and both would stay illuminated for the remainder of the trip. Upon turning the vehicle off then back on, All 4 lights (EPS, Serv 4WD, 4WD Low, 4WD off) would illuminate and remain on for the next 5 to 7 days and then miraculously turn off. Then no issues until once again I hit the highway and engaged the cruise control above 70 mph. Had the auto store read the codes and they said there were no codes to read.

Eventually had a certified auto shop tear into it and they found a burned out 4wd engage motor. Claimed the motor had been miswired from the factory.

Once again the EPS and Serv 4wd lights illuminating while cruising at or above 70mph. Took it in and found the 4wd engage motor burned out (second time). Mechanic claimed it was due to improper splices used to install the motor which allowed current surges to constantly impinge on the motor thus burning it out. This is the second time the 4wd engage motor has burned out. Am going to take it on a long trip this week and will find out if the problem is fixed.
