Roof leaks and drips/pours/gushes torrents of water through the front dome light area. It has destroyed the stereo by drenching it in water. It doesn't matter whether there has been a light sprinkle or a summer monsoon downpour, if it rains, it's 100% guaranteed to leak into the car. I used to keep a beach towel on the dash but would still have standing water in the cup holders and other areas on the center console. After a recent heavy rain, I found the car had "gallons" of water standing in the passenger foot well. I used a shop vac to remove the water and estimate that it had almost 3 gallons that had leaked into the car.

For a fix, I carefully taped a channel off around the sunroof seal and used a heavy spray of FlexSeal to seal off the area. This did NOTHING! My lead must be coming from somewhere other than the sunroof. I'm thinking I'll need to remove the roof rack rails and seal up those areas and seal around the rear top brake light. I don't have any water coming in through the rear dome light.

Everything seems to be up front. I've emptied the sunroof drains numerous times using a plastic tubing (used to connect a refrigerator to water for the icemaker). This worked very well and I've fished it through both drains until I heard the tubing inside the front wheel well guards. I know 100% that this is NOT a problem with the drains being clogged. It's coming in somewhere and pouring onto the headliner. I've watched numerous DIY videos and I don't know that any of them actually know what the problem is.

My husband was driving the jeep to work while it was raining. Water started pouring from dome light. It startled him and he nearly drove into a parked car. We have no warranty left and can not afford to fix it at this time. :(

I am not sure where the water is entering. I looked at the hatch seal and it appears to be in good shape and in the right position (overlapping the interior panel, etc.). The seal does not look distorted in any way and does not look like it has been knocked out of position. I pulled the seal back to look under the ceiling panel near the rear dome light. I believe I can see the water entering the light fixture and ceiling panel through the wire port above the ceiling panel. The big question here is why is water entering in the body along the wiring channel.

This issue needs to be resolved IMMEDIATELY. I consider this an extremely serious problem. Through a web search, I have discovered that this is an ongoing issue with the Jeep Patriot and I want to know how this has been resolved by the manufacturer, as well as other owners. If this is a manufacturing defect, I expect the manufacturer to recall and repair this fully. That includes a reliable fix that will completely eliminate any source for water entering the interior of the vehicle (except for the doors, windows, and hatch when open), as well as replacement for any damaged interior parts due to the current problem, such as, the rear dome light fixture, ceiling panel damage, rust treatment for any body or frame parts affected, upholstery, and standard accessories affected by water.

The car is leaking from the front dome light.. The leaking is serious enough that one rain storm caused the entire front and back seat floor to be completely soaked. Now window will not work correctly, most likely due to electrical problems.

During a rainstorm on my way home from work at 2AM, my dome light started pouring out water while I was on the highway traveling 65 miles an hour. The water fell on my stereo, me, and on my iphone which was in the cup holder beneath the dome light.

As my vehicle is still under the 5 year 50,000 mile warranty, I contacted the local dealership. I was informed that the warranty does not cover leaks after 3 years 35,000 miles. They did not even have any mechanics on hand who could take a look at the problem as their only guy who handles the sunroofs was on vacation. Epic Fail.

I called a local mechanic shop which specializes in Jeeps and he told me the way to check for the easy fix by clearing the drainage holes from debris. I thought this could be my problem as I park under trees in my driveway. The solution worked for one rainstorm, but quickly fell apart after the second rainstorm. There seems to be a problem in the overall drainage system.

My car is at the mechanic's now. We will see if it can be fixed.

my vehicle was outside for the first winter of being my vehicle and at first it was just light snow..then became heavy and then icy...when the ice started building up...is when i noticed it once it was starting to try and unthaw......I first realized it was leaking when i heard drip...drop....drip....like it was raining in the hatch area of the back...fortunately i had something plastic back there for the wetness to land on...which gave it away.....So i checked it out and realized my removable flashlight dome socket was leaking water...then the next day i saw it peeing from the dash dome light....all over my dash and onto my stereo knobs.

I brought it in ,they tore apart some interior and...it didn't happen for a while again...then it did later mud season...and stopped all summer...then again the first big snow fall again next winter....if i keep it in the garage...it doesn't do it what so ever.....this winter it has not bothered at all and I've had it in the garage....this problem does need fixing.

Just purchased a used 2010 Jeep Patriot with under 20,000 miles on it a month and a half ago. After returning home from Christmas vacation, drove my car and water started pouring out of the map light as soon as I moved. After stopping, found a huge pool of water behind the driver's seat. With the New Year's holiday, couldn't get my car into for service until later in the week. Did my best to dry out the car and the mats, and then it rained again 2 days later...same result.

Started leaking less than 3 months after I got it, new from the dealer.

Only then I realized, after looking it up online, that this was a fairly common problem with the Patriot/sunroof.

Got around to bring it to the dealer, which not only wasn't surprised at all, but knew exactly what was the problem, where it was coming from... And how to "fix" it.

However, the "fix" doesn't get rid of the situation, it only prevents it from happening for a little while. Apparently the sunroof drains get clogged, and all they do is to clean them. Inevitably they will get clogged again, and it will have to be done again. And this will keep going until my warranty is out, which means I'll have to pay every time it happens (likely 2-3 times a year).

We have had the leak happen twice now, we brought it in to the Jeep dealership each time and they run it under water for a couple hours and check the sunroof drains and find nothing and do nothing. It doesn't always leak when it rains, but when it has leaked it has filled up my map/dome light and then as I take turns or stop quickly the water spills out onto my stereo and buttons. They don't seem to know what to do and keep telling me to bring it in when it happens. However, it is a pain in the butt having to stop my life to take care of this currently reoccurring problem. To add to that annoyance the dealership is 45 minutes away (taking the highway) and they fix nothing and have no suggestions.
