Renegade Latitude 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 540 miles

When taking off from a stop (usually when making a right turn) there are times when the traction control system engages and power is lost to the wheels. This has been happening every day now shortly after purchasing the vehicle brand new. It doesn't happen every time I take off, but it does happen at least once a day, and sometimes 2 or 3 times. This problem occurs on dry pavement! I see others have also reported similar issues. This shouldn't be happening with a brand new vehicle.

Renegade Latitude

  • Automatic transmission
  • 1,300 miles

Okay, so I've had my 2016 Jeep Renegade Latitude model for a little over a month now. I noticed a couple weeks into ownership that upon taking a turn, be it left or right, sometimes the traction control light would flicker on the dashboard display. Only for a second or 2, but most disturbingly, the engine would bog down and I'd lose power. It's okay when nothing is behind you, but if I were on a busy highway I'd be scared to death. So, last week I took it into the dealer, who summarily did 4 "updates" to it, taking roughly a little over an hour or so. Told me to drive it around the weekend and check it out. So I did and it seemingly worked! I was pleased, but then this morning, with no form of precipitation on the road, as I was making a right hand turn, it came on again, and assuredly the engine bogged down. So that being said, I called the dealership immediately and was told to bring it back in on Wednesday. Missing work 2 times in a week and 2 40 mile round trips is ridiculous.I love the vehicle aside from this issue, as I've google searched it a lot, and it's not an uncommon issue. As many folks as I've seen reporting it, you'd think Jeep/Fiat/Chrysler whoever would have taken more action on it.

Renegade Lattitude 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 1,900 miles

Purchased a brand new 2016 Jeep Renegade right off the lot at dealership. At some point prior to 1,900 miles (may have been sooner, I just didn't realize what was actually happening, just figured I had to break the new car in), the traction control idiot light started flashing and my car decelerated. This happened during a left hand turn onto a street. I was traveling at a crawl, maybe 10-15 mph or thereabouts. As most know, we in New England have had one of the driest summers going. No rain, so dry pavement, and of course because of the time of year, no dropped leaves on roadway and no sand (at least where I was driving). Perfect conditions. There should have been no reason for slippage of any kind.

This has happened numerous times over the past several months, turning left and right. In one day, it happened a total of three times, turning into traffic. This is, to me, a serious problem, especially if you let someone else drive it who is not used to the issue and may not know how to handle it. I was told this is inherent in the vehicle, but I do not believe that to be correct. I have had vehicle with TC before and I have never had to turn off the TC.

I was told by another dealer that it should be on, in case needed. I have also filed a complaint with the manufacturer (Chrysler in Michigan) with a case number. I wanted them to buy back the vehicle, but they were not willing to do so. I am trying to work with the dealership to trade out or something. I am not comfortable about the whole situation. When you buy a BRAND NEW car, you should not have to worry or spend time investigating the issue. Anyone?

Renegade Sport

  • Automatic transmission
  • 300 miles

Just bought my Renegade 3 weeks ago and experienced this issue a few times. When I slow to make a turn, upon acceleration into the turn, suddenly the car loses power and a light flashes for about 5 seconds and then regains power. Both times it was on completely dry pavement. I'm worried I'll be making a left hand turn with oncoming traffic and it will lose power!

Someone said turn off the traction control but I feel like I shouldn't have to. I never had any other vehicle do this before. Like I said my jeep is brand new (300 miles) and I love it otherwise. I don't want to have to return it but I'm worried! Also how do I even turn off the traction control?

Suggestions????

Update from Nov 3, 2016: Called my dealer today and he said he's gotten numerous calls about this with the Renegades. He said it has to do with the 9 speed transmission downshifting at a low speed. He said it loses power for a second while it's shifting into the correct gear. But I told him an orange light flashes every time it happens which makes me think it has something to do with the traction control, because on my old car if it went into traction control mode, a light would flash. So I want to know, is it the 9 speed transmission or the traction control ??? If this keeps happening I'm bringing it in to see what service has to say about it, until then I'm be using caution when turning! .

Renegade Trailhawk 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 10,000 miles

While making a slow turn, on a dry, clean, macadam surface, the traction control activated. The traction control dash light came on for 3 or 4 seconds and the vehicle almost came to a complete stop. The light turned off and the vehicle regained power. This is the fourth time after the first two times the tech preformed three flash updates for modules. This has happen twice since. Had the vehicle for approx. 5000 miles and considering returning it!

Once again the traction control engaged, causing a loss of engine power. It occured in the same location as 3 of the previous incidents. When turning right and going down-hill, the traction control engages for a few seconds...when this oocurs, there is a drastic loss of enging power, for no apparent reason. Today was the first time it happened when the pavement was wet from rain. All previous events occured on completely dry and smooth paved roads.

2016 Jeep Renegade traction control. While making a left turn the vehicle's traction control light comes on blinking and the vehicle had a loss of power / acceleration. This has happened 5 - 6 times. It is dry out and the road conditions are clear. I have only had this happen making left turns. This is a major problem. Most left turns have you crossing on coming traffic and someone is going to be hurt or killed.

On the way home from work, after coming to a complete stop, I made a right turn onto a dry, smooth, paved road that had a decline...once again, the traction control engaged which caused a massive loss of engine power for several seconds...there was literally zero throttle responce while this was occuring,

ON 3 occasions the Traction control Light would turn on and the car would lose power, a couple seconds it would regain power and off I go. I was concerned each time the person behind me would rear end me. If you have ever had to brake fast that is what it felt like sudden stop and jerk. . Every time this happened it was dry outside. I didnt think anything about this, until I read others had experienced the same thing. IM turning my traction control off. And calling the dealer tomorrow. This is on a 2016 Jeep Renegade Latitude

traction control comes on randomly, power cuts out

This has happened numerous times and is nerve racking when it occurs...I usually turn off the traction Control when I start the car to avoid this issue...upon searching the net, it appears this is a common problem.
