problem #2

Forte ES 2.0L

  • Manual transmission
  • 100,000 miles

Noticed the rear brake rotor was rusting and not shiny. Brake caliper was frozen. I disassembled the brake pad from caliper and problem appears to be fixed.

problem #1

May 232012

Forte EX 2.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 30,000 miles

I had smoke coming off of my rear brake pads due to both calipers being frozen. I was told from the local dealership that frozen calipers were normal in our part of the country (western PA) due to the state using salt to melt ice. The car only had 30K and they still would not cover it under the bumper to bumper since they also told me the calipers were wear out items. I ended up taking the car home and rebuilding the calipers myself, since I didn't want to pay the $500 they told me it would cost to fix. I will post photos of the damaged pads and rotors once I get them off of my cell phone.
