Here's what happens: I put the key in the ignition and turn it to crank the engine. The car starts, but the key stays all the way in the crank position. It does not pop back slightly into the position for driving. The headlights and radio will not come on. Then you put it into drive, or reverse, and there is a grinding noise coming from near the firewall (starter?). I have tried to put it into park again, jump out, open the hood, and film where the sound is coming from, but it sometimes goes away by the time I do that. If I turn the engine off and restart, the problem does not repeat. Kia says they've never heard of this issue.
