My engine light kept coming on and when the light came on the engine was very noisy. I told the Mazda Service Manager this, he told me they found no codes, checked the oil and nothing was wrong. He said if the light comes back on, bring it back and don't shut the car off. On my way home the engine light came on, then the oil light came on so I turned around and went right back to the shop. This time they kept the car. When I went back they told me it had a faulty oil pressure screen, they would have to drop the oil pan and change it. Anyone that knows anything about motors knows that if you lose oil pressure you will damage the bearings and the rings; you lose life of the motor. You may not see immediate damage, but the damage is there and down the road it will be noticed.

The service manager agreed with me that the motor should be replaced. We only had 3,593 miles on my car. Mazda said they would stand behind their product. They never offered to buy our car back or replace the motor that they know has damage due to the lack of oil pressure. We could not even get an area sales representative to call us back. We called Mazda direct, they said they are not going to do anything. They did replace the oil screen and the oil sensor unit. I have been in the automotive business all my life, I heard the noise the motor was making, they only put a band-aid on to fix the problem I am left with the remaining damage that they are not willing to acknowledge.

I put my trust and faith in what I was told when I bought the 2016 Mazda CX5. I thought I was getting a better vehicle. Service means everything, it can make the difference in a returning customer.

This repair requires the loss of the vehicle for a full day because the oil pan has to be removed to replace the faulty oil screen filter. Aside from losing my vehicle for a day, what annoyed me most about this was being a new vehicle with the engine not yet broken in, the Mazda mechanic raced the engine in neutral multiple times - contrary to what Mazda states in the owner's manual about what NOT to do when breaking-in a new vehicle - while he tried to diagnose the problem. Based on research I have done since, this may or may not have a long-term negative impact on engine efficiency and life-span.

Update from Mar 13, 2016: Update: Two weeks ago, Mazda replaced the oil screen filter they said was causing the low oil pressure warning lamp to go on and off intermittently. Yesterday, the warning lamp came on again. I think the fault may be a bad sensor or software; that or the tech who replaced the old filter failed to flush the engine to remove any obstructing materials before he installed the new one.

Update from Apr 9, 2016: After three visits to the dealership, the replacement of the oil screen filter, the oil pump, and the oil pressure sensor, it appears this problem may finally have been resolved.
