CX-9 Brakes making lots of noise and taking some distance to stop. Car has 99,800 miles on it.
Took car to a Local Ford dealership for a brake inspection and potential brake service. Brakes inspected indicated rotors and pads were worn and to be replaced. Ok'd the service and components were replaced. Also noted after brakes replaced that the MASTER Cylinder was not functioning and should be addressed. Informed the Ford Shop the Master Cylinder was replaced at the Mazda Dealership and The Car will be taken there.

for a well maintained vehicle with less than 50k miles the brake booster should not have gone out, there should have been a recall on this as this could have been a potentially dangerous situation if my wife did not take it into the shop for repair when she did

brakes are stiff when hit, released and hit again quickly
While braking normally then releasing and reapplying, the brakes became hard to press and did not stop the car as normal.

After some internet research, I see the Feds opened up an investigation on 2010-11 CX9 models on this exact problem, but closed it in 2014. Maybe another look is warranted, because my model is 2012. When I arrived at the dealership to get it fixed, they told me my warranty was extended by 7 years for this issue. I'm pleased not to have to pay for this, but it is concerning that I was never notified of this potential braking issue in the first place. I had my brake pads checked last week and they were still good so I almost ignored it when it happened again this week... if not for a louder hissing noise and a scary moment where I felt my brake get hard and then spongy and think that my car was not going to stop.

Well here I am again. After the Rear Brake Rotors and Pads replaced the Ford dealership indicated the Brake Booster was not working. Called for an appointment with the Mazda Dealership where the Brake Booster was replaced with 76XXX miles in September of 2017. Took to the Mazda Dealership and they indicated the Brake Booster was the contributing factor to the Problem wit the brakes. OK scheduled an appointment with the local shop we had taken the car to back in Sept 2017 to have the initial brake problem looked at where the local shop repaired the brake booster and master cylinder and called over to the Mazda dealership to complete the repair. Some Shop 3 replaces the replaced brake booster as recommended by the Mazda Dealership and hands us back the car saying if there are additional issues to take the car to Mazda as the Brake Booster we installed in Sept 2017 had NO PROBLEM but we stood by you and replaced the booster anyway for your piece of mind. Ok, Car not braking after traveling to a neighboring state for the weekend and we return the car to the Mazda Dealership for immediate attention.
Dealership Identifies the problem as an AIR pocket in the ABS Control Module and they can not get the air pocket to escape after numerous attempts. They do not know at what point in the process this bubble could have been introduced to the ABS module. Cost for the Part After Market anywhere from $200 to 500 cost for a Mazda Sourced Part from 600 to 900 Installation another $300 - $400. More than feed up with these BRAKE issues that ESSENTIAL for car and others safety.
