Last week while driving in the morning, a car stopped in front of me. I had plenty of room to stop. However, when I hit the brakes, the entire car started shuttering, the steering wheel locked up, and it felt like the car moved into neutral. As a result, I hit the car in front of me going approximately 5mph. There was little to no damage as a result. However, in the past 3 days, I have had two other incidents of this and barely missed an accident.

One time involved almost rear ending someone and the other I was on a side street attempting to brake before entering a busy intersection and the car again locked up. I ended up being unable to stop and entered the lane with oncoming traffic traveling at about 40mph. Fortunately, the car who was close to hitting me was able to swerve into the other lane, but I had my two small children in the car.

I have placed a call to Mazda to address this issue which is a major safety issue. Of note, this appears to mostly happen at low speeds. It has been happening for several months but given the snow, I thought it was the anti-lock brakes being overly sensitive. However, it is happening far more often with a total of 4 incidents in the past week.
