MAZDA3 GS 2.0L V4

  • Automatic transmission

Rear left shock mount sheared right in half. Aluminum housing had severely corroded. A new shock mount and rubber bump stop fixed the issue.

Bottom 17 mm shock bolt was a pain to take off, and required a blow torch to heat it up and get it unseized.

MAZDA3 Sport 2.0L

At around 16K the vehicle started making a very loud rattling noise from the trunk area whenever we drive over any small bump or road imperfection. There is nothing in the trunk that would cause this noise, but I am thinking of removing the cheap styrofoam housing that has the tire iron in it (right side of trunk area, since this is where the noise seems to be concentrated). That is loose in the back and may be the culprit, but not sure at this point.
