MAZDA5 Sport 2.5L

  • Manual transmission
  • 98,891 miles

We have been driving standards all our lives and to have our clutch go at 159,000 miles was surprising. Our last vehicle been a Lancer had around 336,000 with same transmission and clutch before been written off.

MAZDA5 Sport 2.5L I4

  • Manual transmission
  • 51,000 miles

2012 Mazda5, specifically purchased because we wanted the manual transmission (I know, we're awesome like that).

This is a family hauler, micro van, never driven in anger, been driving manual trans cars for the past 22 years. Since when does a factory clutch wear out in 50k miles? Feels totally normal, except that when you give it more than 5% throttle it rev's with little to no acceleration. Once it started a few weeks ago it deteriorated quickly. Reading on here it looks like there are a metric ton of complaints on the Mazda3 (same powertrain) in the same years. There's even a class action law suit now going since Mazda stiffs folks and blames driver error even when you're within the 60 month, 60mile warranty window. Lovely.

Have driven manual for over 30 years. First car I had I drove for 14 years and never replaced the clutch. Second car for 13 years and never replaced the clutch. Had this Mazda for less than 4 years and had to replace the clutch at 72,000km. Mazda Canada sees nothing wrong with this and says general wear and tear-- poor driving etc. I asked to see their statistics on this issue and they will not share. Said it's confidential. They have an inferior/faulty clutch and are blaming and charging customers. Please share if this has happened to you.

MAZDA5 2.5L V4

  • Manual transmission
  • 38,525 miles

Clutch is slipping after only 60k kilometers! Both, my wife and I, have been driving manual transmission cars for over 20 years each. We've never had problems with any of our previous manual cars. We haven't fixed it just yet, but I'm reading that it's going to cost at least $1200.

I noticed there aren't as many complaints, but my guess is that there are very few people buying a manual version of the Mazda5, so statistically, you won't get that many complaints. I did see that the Mazda3 is having a lot of issues with premature death of their clutch of the same year, so I suspect that that the Mazda3 and Mazda5 use the same clutch.

This is poor design. A clutch shouldn't fail this quickly.

MAZDA5 SE

  • Manual transmission
  • 38,000 miles

Clutch failing at 38K miles when I would have expected about 100K. Dealer tells me there's no problem broadly reported. No aftermarket parts available yet, so it's being repaired with OEM. Very disappointing given how much I like this car.
