MAZDA6 I

  • Automatic transmission
  • 85,000 miles

I was going about 15 MPH and the lower control arm was pulled out of the rotted sub frame when the breaks were applied. I lost control of the vehicle and came to a halting stop. The vehicle was towed to the dealer pending for repairs (sub frame is on national back order till November). There is also same issues reported for the 2009 and 20010 year Mazda 6. There should be a safety recall since this is very dangerous!

MAZDA6 Touring 2.5L 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 160,000 miles

This rust issue was brought o my attention by a CarX mechanic when they were replacing brake pads. They showed the extensive rust and said it was highly unusual to see this much deterioration on a 7 year old vehicle. They advised me to have it replaced soon. Their guesstimate was between $2,000 and $2500, didn't give a formal estimate. After searching the internet for similar complaints from Mazda drivers, and found many complaints, I emailed Mazda with my concerns and told them I don't feel I should pay several grand to fix their obvious problem. I didn't receive a response, so a week later I emailed again.

I received an email back stating the car is out of warranty so "there is no promise of assistance". They offered "reasonable towing" and pay the diagnosis fee, which I will do. I don't anticipate any breaks from Mazda, even though it's obvious there is a serious problem that causes the sub frame to rust through. It has caused people to lose control of the car due to the frame or steering arm to jam into the wheel while driving. I do mostly highway driving (70-75 mph), so if this would happen to me I would be dead. I'm wondering if they're waiting for people to die and a law suit initiated before a recall is warranted.

I would appreciate if anyone with a Mazda (2009-2012) that has the same issue to contact me. If there are enough people raising hell about it, maybe they'll do something. If you haven't had your Mazda's frame checked, please do it so you don't get hurt!!!!
