I noticed my check engine light was coming on and off so, I had the auto parts store give a read out of possible problems, it gave a code P0016 and read Replace Balance Shaft Gear. I then called my local Import car specialist and was told this was a problem that I needed to take to the Dealer. I took the car today for service, I needed to pay $145.00 for a diagnosis then, pay an additional $300.00 more to have a camera scope of inside the engine, they told me that they also needed to drop the oil pan to look for metal shavings. I was going to wait for my car but,I was offered a ride home because, it was going to be at least 2 Hours more before they could determine the problem. Later I received a call with Bad news, yes my car had metal shavings in the oil pan, that indicated the Gear needed replacement, also this required major engine work. The total fix was a $5000.00 Job but, my cost would be around $2,800.00 because Mercedes was willing to ( help pay for the fix.) Mercedes said there was litigation over this problem and Mercedes settled that way. I decided to go on line to learn more about this problem. Would you share with me any information that would be helpful ?

I feel like my hands are tied and my only choice is to have it fixed and pray it will stay fixed.

Thanks :)
