I had pulled up to AutoZone to purchase a new light bulb since my interior dome light went out. My car had intermittently been stopping while driving for several weeks before. I put off taking it to the dealer since I was so busy and needed to use my car daily. When I went to leave AutoZone the car wouldn't shift into gear. I had to read the manual to locate information on how to override the gear shaft. After using a screwdriver to press the override which is located to the left of the shift under a small circular cap which I had to pry out with the screwdriver, I was able to change gears and drive home. Later, I was able to have someone follow me to the dealership to leave the car overnight for them to check in the morning. I had to use the screwdriver to override the gear and then put the car in reverse and then override it again to put the car in drive and finally once more after arriving at the dealership to shift it into park. They replaced the Crankshaft position sensor and CAM sensor which fixed the problem. Seems that many other owners are having this problem but a Recall has not been set yet. I too had a problem with my cars engine shutting down when I was driving and then had a problem with restarting the car. I took it to the dealership for repairs and found out it problem was related to a recall that just went out at the end of last year. Since I did not have the car brought in to have the sensor reset "before" the check engine lights came on, and before the engine shut down on me, I am know responsible for paying to have the sensor replaced!!! Basically, the way I understand it, if I had driving my car to Nissan on Friday morning and asked if there where any recalls on my car they could have reset the sensor....NO COST TO ME. But since I waited until my car shuit down on me on Saturday, I know have to pay to have the sensor REPLACED! This is ABSURED!!! I didn't know there was a recall (problem) that needed to be corrected until it was too late....BUT I HAVE TO PAY FOR IT! I ask the same question.....IS THIS LEGAL????
