The driver side sun visor on my 2005 Nissan Murano will not stay in the "up" position. It can rotate to vertical at any time, blocking the driver's vision and distracting the driver's attention. Replacement visors are $300 and up. Nissan is in complete denial that this chronic problem exists.

Driving is the event leading to the failure. Driver's side sun visor will not stay in the up position and falls down in front of drivers eyes without warning or hesitation. This will lead to accident due to the driver losing eye contact with traffic and the road.

Normal vehicle use, about 45K miles.the drivers side sun visor fails to remain in the up position. This leads to critical driver blinding at unexpected times, usually during stops or turns when sight is critical. Nissan would not repair under $400 and no after market parts have been found. A search shows this to be a known common issue affecting driver safety.

I own a 2005 Nissan Murano and both sun visors keep falling. I've tried velcro and even glue but to no avail. These faulty visors are dangerous because they tend to fall when I am driving and momentarily obstruct my view. I've come close on a few occasions to hitting a vehicle in front of me because of this. The cost to replace these visors is exorbitant ($350 or more ea) and while researching where to buy them cheap or even a method of repair for this defect I've found that there are multiple Nissan owners with this exact same problem.

Murano

  • 69,000 miles
The driver side visor fell down one day and will no longer stay in up position. It must be left down flush against the window which obstructs the drivers view of the roadway. The visor repair is covered by my warranty but my deductible is $200 and to fix the visor without the warranty is over $300. From what I have read, this is an ongoing issue and a serious safety issue for drivers. People who have gotten them replaced continue to have this issue and the visor should be recalled and replaced with one that works in every other car. There are a lot of complaints here and it doesn't appear that anyone is doing anything about it.

Like everyone else here my 2005 Nissan Murano sun visor driver's side won't stay up and it flops down. I agree that this is a very serious safety issue. I refuse to pay $500 to have a defect originally from Nissan repaired properly. The visor is totally loose and won't stay up nor will it stay put to block the sun since it's so loose that it simply flops straight down. I have resorted to using duck tape to tape it in the up position so it doesn't flop down when I hit a bump traveling down the road at 70+ mph. It's a serious safety issue and I'm mad as *** about it. The passenger side has a similar problem but it's not as bad - probably just due to less usage on the passenger side.

Murano

  • 48,000 miles
The driver side sun visor will fall down from any postion and block visabily out of the windshield. It will also scare the driver causing hands to leave the steering wheel in self preservation and to move the visor out of the viewing area. This does not happen all of the time. So each time it does happen iit is a shock to the driver. There is no aftermarket repair. The dealer wants in excess of $300 to replace it. There is no guarentee that the replacement will not perform as the original. I have tried to velcro the visor in the up position but velcro will not stick to the head liner very well. Also I need the visor in more than just an up or down position.

The driver's side visor will not stay in the stowed position. It falls down into the driver's line of sight obstructing his/her vision. It happens intermittently, surprising the driver, causing a safety hazard. To keep it out of the way, one hand must be used to hold it up, leaving only one hand to drive.

My sun visor has been broken for nearly a year now. It's on the driver's side and will not stay up. If a tall person is driving you have to hold it up for them so they can see the road. This is a very severe safety hazard. I have a 05 niacin Murano and according to the following blog, several people are having the same issue. It should be recalled as some have spent $400 to replace it only for it to break again. www.nissanforums.com/truck-SUV/113557-Murano-sun-visor-failure.html

I own a 2005 Nissan Murano. The sunvisor on the driver's side wouldn't stay up and was right in my line of sight. I had it replaced and cost nearly $400. Now the passenger side won't stay up either. The price has increased to nearly $500!!! this is a safety hazard and needs to be recalled by Nissan. I can's safely drive the car with the sun visor always in the down position. I have tried velcro and it won't hold it up. I saw online there have been multiple complaints about this problem and Nissan refuses to help any of their customers except to pay the cost of replacement. This is a safety issue and Nissan needs to issue a recall on their sun visors.

Murano

The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Murano. The contact stated that while driving at low speeds over a bump, the sun visor would fall down without assistance. The sun visor would remain in an upward position when secured with velcro straps. In addition, the passenger side air bag sensor would not function. While dispensing fuel the automatic nozzle clicked off continuously. There was a recall under NHTSA campaign id number 06V003000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly). The VIN was not included in the recall. The failure was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 52,000.

While driving at highway speeds the sun visor on both drivers and passager side swing down and block the vision of the driver. The cost to replace the visors is $800, at this cost it makes you thing Nissan is aware of this problem and chooses to make a profit on these instead on considering the safety aspect of their customers. I feel there should be a safety recall after reading the number of complaints on this.

Dec 202010

Murano

  • 63,000 miles
I own a 2005 Nissan Murano and have uncovered a vehicle defect that is a safety hazard. The sun visors are a defective design and keep flipping completely down and blocking the view through the windshield. In some of the most inopportune times, your vision gets completely blocked until you flip it back up. That is very dangerous in the snow, rain, heavy traffic, or at night. Sometimes it can drop 2 - 3 times a minute. This is a problem on thousands of 2003 to 2007 Muranos. Replacing the sun visor is prohibitively expensive at $400 each and since this flaw has not been addressed at all by Nissan, you are only replacing a defective visor with a new one that will become defective in a couple of years. I replaced my driver's side visor 2 years ago because of this defect and the replacement one is now dropping again. Nissan has a tsb to replace the clip that holds the mirror side of the visor but that does not address the issue. The problem is a defective visor, not the clip. The visor shaft that inserts into the clip loosens inside the visor and rotates, and that is the defect. The weight of the visor easily overcomes any friction the shaft has inside the visor and down it comes. Nissan refuses to do anything about this safety defect. They won't cover it on the extended warrantees. There should be a safety recall to address this safety hazard. Is there anything that can be done except throw $400 to Nissan every 2 - 3 years to replace each single visor with another defective one? the passenger side is also now dropping. Nissan has recently raised the price considerably to gouge and capitalize on their poor design. Right now I have the visor tie wrapped to the side handle and that makes the visor completely useless. If I replace both again, I will have spent $1200 so far on visors to only expect to replace them again in 2012-2013. $1200 is a ridiculous price for replacing defective visors with new defective ones. Please help if you can.
