problem #10

Nov 202019

Rogue SV

  • Automatic transmission
  • 20,634 miles

The automated emergency braking system is engaging at random times for absolutely no reason. This has happened at least 10 times in the last year (Jan 2018 - Nov 2019).

I am reporting the most recent malfunction which occurred on 11/22/2019 at 12:20pm in bright daylight.

Also, my audio system will reset too - this has happened three times while I was driving, whereby the screen goes blank and the Nissan logo appears as the audio system resets.

Both of these are very concerning, but the AEB malfunctioning is the worst due to the fact a terrible accident may occur if the braking is engaged at high speeds causing serious injury due to accident.

Update from Nov 24, 2019: A formal complaint has been filed with the NHTSA.

I was going on a State Route which has a limit of 50 mph. The car started beeping and came to a staggering halt (like slammed brakes) in the middle of a busy intersection. Luckily I did not have anyone behind me. But the 2 cars on either side of me seemed to have just zoomed by. I shook there for a second and moved to right most lane and slowly drove back home.

I called Nissan to have this checked up. After several discussions on the phone after factory warranty expired, I told them this sounds like a safety issue, and I convinced them to look at my car. Meanwhile I researched online to find there are hundreds of reports of similar incidents.

When I took my car to the dealership, it turned out to be a witch hunt for them. They found a couple of screw scratches on my bumper (from my garage door) and claim that the car was in an accident and has damaged the radar sensor. The radar sensor is on the grill and not on the bumper where the screw scratches were. The service manager was rude and blamed me for hiding an accident. He gave me an estimate of $3000 to fix this and said it is not a Nissan problem. He completely denied there are any reports of this issue.

Rogue SL AWD 1.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 7,758 miles

I only had the car a month and I was getting ready to get on the highway, it was dark and raining when all of a sudden the car slammed on breaks. Really startled me. I was glad it didn't happen after getting on the highway. So I called the dealership to make an appointment I got it in on July 5th. When I took it in they told me it was probably the sensors so they were adjusted and I took the car home. Then in October there was a recall for the AEB system which was to fix the problem I had. So I think it is fixed, wrong it happened again, 2 months later. I'm afraid to drive the car. This is truly a safety problem and Nissan needs to take ownership of the problem and be concurred about peoples safety.

On May 23, 2019 I was driving my 2018 Rogue when it suddenly started beeping, a yellow triangle appeared on the dashboard and the vehicle made a grinding sound while slowing my car as if the sensor detected something in the road that I was about to hit. The vehicle applied the automatic breaking system for no apparent reason. It happened again a few weeks later at the same location. I chalked it up to my car sensing something at that intersection, until it happened again yesterday, June 16, 2019. I was doing approx 40MPH with no other cars or obstructions on the road. Once again, the alarm started beeping, the yellow triangle appeared on the dash and the brakes started grinding, slowing my vehicle down while in motion. If anyone was driving behind me, I would have been rear ended. A quick Google search showed numerous complaints about this very issue with the newer Rogues within the past year. Nissan should issue a recall for this problem, as it could (and probably has) ended up causing an accident. When I called the dealership to schedule maintenance, they were very aware of the issue and questioned why Nissan hasn't issued a recall for it yet.

Back in June of 2018 when I bought the car, when going into parking garage or over a puddle of water, or under a bridge, the dash would say obstruction ahead and then come to a stop. Have had two updates in March of 2019 to fix the issue. On 5/2/2018 car had a new message in red, and stopped in the parking garage. This time car froze the break was solid not moving and after giving the car some time I then was able to continue moving. Speeds of automatically stopping range from 5 to 15mph. There has been no solutions to this dangerous issue.

2nd time for this problem. Tried a different dealership who checked the system and said the first dealership already did everything there was to be done. The icing on the cake was the service manager telling us he has the same problem with his Rogue and can't fix it either. He said to complain to Nissan...

Rogue SE 3.2L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 5,824 miles

Lease 2018 Rogue.

Traveling 40 MPH AEB engaged and almost pulled me off the road.

Front end groaned -- dash indicator lit up and beeped three times.

Thought I had a suspension or blown out tire by the reaction.

Took it to local dealer who (basically) blew me off so I left. Called dealer, called Nissan and have car in shop today.

Was informed that if it were anything but a software update that it would cost me (the darned car is under warranty!!!) --- these cars should be taken off road.

They are the 737 MAX of vehicles!
