brakes without warning while driving brakes without warning while driving brakes without warning while driving

I have a 2018 Nissan Rogue purchased from a non-Nissan Dealer at 39000 miles. After about 2500 miles the ABS light came on while driving home for work at 70 mph - scary as hell. I work 45 minutes from home so I have to drive on the highway. I take my Rogue to the local Nissan dealer and they say the cut off is 36,000 miles and it will cost $1300 to fix and - guess what? - it's not covered by the extended warranty I purchased.

So I email corporate to give them the benefit of doubt before filing any other complaint. They say it's not within the repair guidelines. Okay, so I file a BBB complaint. Their response was that I was offered a 10% discount which I was never offered. 10 percent of $1300.00 is nothing to a full time working mother in college and paying tuition for a son in college. They need to take more responsibility for this hazard - I have even disabled the feature and the warning pops up out of nowhere. This is bad business.

The selfing braking system has gone off twice while driving down the street while going under overpasses. No other vehicles where even around us. We called the dealership they reported that there is a bulletin on the system doing this and needs to be reset. We hope this fixes the problem. I think the shadow of the overpasses set this off cause both cases it was a sunny day.

3 times it has applied the brakes while pulling into my garage. Sometimes I hear the collision warning. I wait 2hrs at the dealer and said they upgraded the system. 4/16/2019 it happened again in front my garage. I took it to the dealer and one of them said maybe something in my garage causes the problem. My answer was 'why it doesn't do it every day?' No answer. I have an appointment, wish me luck. I'm afraid of driving my car. Thinking of going with other brand, but my problem is the money.

While driving home on Friday, April 12, 2019, on the highway at 60 mph, it suddenly braked for no reason. There was nothing in the roadway, I didn't run over anything, the road was clear. The weather was clear. I immediately got off the highway and went directly to the Nissan dealership service department. I explained what happened and the service person (a man, of course) didn't understand, told me I probably ran over something in the roadway, like it was my fault. I said I didn't run over anything and there was nothing in the road. He drove it around the lot and came back and told me that it didn't do anything, he checked the camera function and said everything looked like it was working and said there wasn't anything to do because it didn't do it while he drove it. He went to talk to his manager who told him that his Rogue did it occasionally, too. I said this is not normal and it is dangerous. He said he couldn't help. Even though I was scared to drive my car again not knowing what was happening, I decided to see if it happened again (maybe it was just a fluky thing). On the way home from the dealership, it happened AGAIN! I called as soon as I got home and told the same guy that it happened again, and he got surly and said the only thing he could do would be to have another service person check the cameras if I would be there at 8:00 am-sharp the following Monday. So I will take it in Monday and wait for them to check the cameras (if that is even the problem) because he couldn't give me a loaner to drive to work. His attitude towards me and the whole incident was totally uncalled for. Suddenly, I have lost trust in my Rogue and Nissan. I may go to Chevy and trade it in!!!

Driving through town, usually through an intersection, my car begins alarming and then dramatically slows down, if I give it gas it will go again. It happened to me 3 different times, each time there were not people in front of me or anything in my path. I brought it to the dealership, they said they updated the software and it should be fixed. Within the next couple days it did it again, and this time I was only going about 15 mph, due to construction. Again there was no one in front of me, and the dashboard alarmed and then it dramatically slowed again.

I took it back to the dealership again and they said it might be that my mph limit was set to 10mph above the speed limit, they shut it off and said that would help. Like I said, I was only going about 15 mph when it happened, so I not confident that this will fix it. It has only been 3 days since they shut that function off, so I will keep you posted. Then this morning on my way to work, my collision light was on and flashing, and every time I made a right hand turn, the car sounded like something was grinding.

I HATE THIS CAR AND AM INCREDIBLY DISAPPOINTED.

Purchased this car as a 1st car for my daughter secondary to its safety ratings. Terrible to see that this is an ongoing and DANGEROUS problem that is not being addressed by Nissan!

While traveling on a city street with no one around doing approximately 35 to 40 mph, car started braking, yellow warning flashed on dash and audible dinging. This is the 3rd time its happened and I am calling the dealership since I have had this car all of 10 freaking days! The first time it was an unspecified malfunction message and light, but it disappeared. I got rid of my old 242,000 Toyota to have piece of mind...well we see how well that's worked!!

Rogue SL 2.5L/152

  • Automatic transmission
  • 15,500 miles

While accelerating between 35 and 40 mph, the vehicle suddenly braked and shuddered, while my foot is on accelerator! The car behind me almost hit me. This is 2nd time that it happened. The first was in April, and I was just starting to accelerate, so I was not sure if it was an engine or transmission problem, as what I heard was almost grinding noise. My husband was in the car the first time, my son, a mechanic, was in the car this last time.

The first time Nissan said no codes were thrown, so no clue what happened, as they could not recreate. It's in the shop again today to see if they can figure it out. Fortunately this time, a friend was driving behind me and saw my brake lights go on, so I can now say with certainty that it's brake related. I don't want to drive this on the freeway - can't imaging getting rear-ended by a big-rig and dying!

I sure hope they can figure it out, or it's going to court. I can now only drive this piece of junk on surface streets, in the slow lane, - so it's almost worthless to me.

Update from Oct 29, 2018: Dealership uploaded computer fix to security system, that is supposed to fix the brake issue. I had to bug them to check for an update Service Bullitin - NTB8-041a, which was recommended by the NHTSA (I also filed complaint with them). Fingers crossed that this is the REAL fix.

Rogue Lxawd

  • Automatic transmission
  • 4,500 miles

On my way out of the parking lot lights started blinking on my dash and the automatic emergency braking system engaged. Total freak out because there was no other car near my car (front, sides or rear). The vehicle was moving steadily about 25 to 30 mph on the road before you get to Rte 100/422 bypass. There was no reason for this incident to occur since there was no other cars nearby, no debris on the road, and nothing adhering to the front of the car near the sensor. It barely stopped before I would have been in an intersection where a crash would have occurred.

Update from Nov 6, 2019: i reported the terrifying experience that happened 5x .... Nissan had my car for 3 months just days shy of the Lemon Law. No loaner car nothing..... they said they replaced everything BUT the car has stopped several times after everything was supposedly replaced.
