Sentra SV

  • CVT transmission
  • 7,025 miles

I bought this car on 10/24/14 and put 400 miles on it. My daughter parked the car on a slightly sloping driveway and was attempting to exit the vehicle. She reports a grinding noise and the car started rolling backward down the driveway. She jumped back in the driver's seat and attempted to stop it but says the brakes wouldn't work. The car was off and the keys were in her hand so I assume the power brakes would not be working. She is 16 yrs old and weighs 100 pounds. She could not control the car at all. It picked up speed on the incline and rolled almost 100 feet before her open driver's door hit the rear of a parked SUV which ultimately stopped it before it rolled into the street. The door was bent completely backwards and has to be replaced. Undriveable until I can get it fixed.

My first thought was that she didn't put it in park but then I realized you can't take the key out of the ignition without it being in park. This car was traded in at 6000 miles and the Carfax did report minor rear end damage. I assumed the previous owner backed into something or got rear ended. Now I'm thinking something else. This was a certified pre-owned vehicle and everything checked out. I will update after repairs are made and vehicle is inspected
