Titan SL 5.7L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 21,748 miles

Mine is a 2017 Titan SL 4 door 5.5ft box.

I have had the issue twice where the brakes, without warning fail. The pedal simply goes to the floor. Upon re pumping the brake pedal it comes back. 1st time i was pointed uphill with my boat in tow. Stopped on the hill I was talking with a friend on the road when the brake pedal just went to the floor and I started to roll backwards. after pumping the pedal a couple of time it came back. Dealer inspected, found nothing, and suggested the hill lock may have been the cause but couldn't find anything wrong.

The second time I was pointed downhill to about 30kmph or 18 mph; road grade was about 6% Again with my boat trailer in tow which weighs around 3500lbs - 4000 lbs fully loaded. The trailer has disc surge brakes in good working order. As I am slowing down I keep pressing the brake but the truck isn't slowing more and the pedal is still going down. Then the pedal hits the floor and Im not slowing even a bit. I pump the pedal a couple of time (just as last time) and the brakes come back and I'm able to stop. <p>My dealer, while always very good to me again could not find a problem and despite my last couple of calls on them still dont have an answer for me. Given the lack of a mechanical connection in the hydraulic system ( as a vehicles were required to have for safety) there must be a faulty value bleeding backwards were it shouldn't when under a load. That`s my guess.

Titan SV 5.6L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 11,915 miles

September 17, 2018

2017 NISSAN TITAN INCIDENT. Purchased new on August 28, 2017 now has 11,915 miles as of 09-13-2018 at the time of the brake issue.

While telling a friend goodbye with the driver side door open, he watched and witnessed me stepping on the brake pedal with my right foot so to shift my truck into reverse and watched the brake pedal drop to the floor. You cannot shift into drive or reverse without your foot on the brake pedal due to the INTERLOCK DEVICE in this model truck. The Interlock Device works well even when brake pedal drops to floor.

As I began rolling backwards do to the idle of a strong torque converter while continuously pumping the brake pedal down to the floor while starting to idle backwards. I immediately pulled the driver door shut almost hitting my friend and then proceeded backwards down a 25 degree hill toward his neighbors home across the street coming to a halt on three foot boulders and rocks, with the truck hanging in the air from behind the drivers door to the rear of the vehicle.

There is now over $10,000. plus dollars of damages to the bed and under carriage not to mention the scratches from the limbs on front fenders and the cab.

Up to now this has been an incredible truck and would stop on a dime. Has anyone else experienced brake issues especially in reverse. I feel the insurance company and the Nissan body shop do not believe me and think I’m nuts! I’m now worried that Nissan will fix the brake problem and deny there was a problem while in their possession to cover up their liability and millions of dollars in recalls on this model!

I have over four million miles under my belt in driving experience and never have had an incident like this happen! Even I too question brake failure in reverse with such an incredible truck, but have a witness standing by me witnessing the brake pedal dropping to the floor too.
