2006 Nissan Xterra fuel level sensor malfunction. Even after the previous models of Nissan pathfinder, Xterra, etc. Were recalled due to the fuel sensor malfunction, I am having the same problems with my 2006 Xterra.

Fuel gauge problem with 2006 Xterra.
- Kihei, HI, USA
2006 Nissan Xterra fuel gauge reports erroneous information at all times. Verified error code (P0463) and the error points to a fuel sending unit failure (fuel level sensor circuit high input) which means the fuel sending unit has failed. This failure will turn the (service engine soon) light on the dash. Error code P0463.

I filled up my 2006 Xterra with gas (the light just came on before I filled up) and right after I filled up the check engine light came on and the gas gauge barely moved. I have 36,088 miles. My factory warranty just expired. I have read many people are having this problem. I drove home (5 miles away) and the light did not go off. I also tried restarting the engine several times.

Nissan service bulletin ntb07-069A should be recall.

The gas sign drops after filling up indicating E with a light on and the check engine light comes on which has stayed on ever since June 5, 2009. There are times when we would switch drivers and wouldn't know how much gas there are, that's a problem. We purchased the Nissan X-terra in 2007, but it is the model year 2006. The problem does occur within two years after purchasing the vehicle. We believe there should be a recall on repairing our vehicle because it is apparent that the defect came from the manufacturing of the vehicle. We are still stuck with this problem and we shouldn't have to pay for repairs. If this problem doesn't get solved, there will be further actions. Figuring that since we are loyal customers, there should be some kind of understanding.

2006 Nissan Xterra with fuel gauge defect. Apparently this is extremely common defect in the part and needs to be covered by manufacturer. Error code P0463. My service engine soon light stays on constant. I guess the only way to fix it it to buy a new fuel pump/ sensor unit...

I had 1/4 of a tank of gas and went to fill up. After filling up my gas tank, I turned on the car, at which point the needle did not register the full tank. After driving a couple miles, the check engine light came on. I went directly to the dealer and was told that it was a fuel sending unit/sensor and that it was no longer covered after 30K miles. After returning home and doing research, I went online to X.nissanhelp.com after performing a search, I came across many others who have experienced the same problem. Apparently it has something to do with the fuel sending unit. A similar problem was found on the 2000-2004 Xterra models and a recall was performed when the vehicle would stop after not getting any fuel, posing a great danger. It seems that something in the unit is faulty and will corrode over time. There is a general consensus that everyone who is having the problem is experiencing the same thing after having the vehicle for over 2 yrs and with around 39K-49K. If this problem existed in previous models, and it was recalled, the 2005-2007 Xterras, frontiers, and pathfinders should get this fixed at no charge to the customer!! why wait for accidents and possible deaths, especially since the problem lies in an integral part of the vehicle. Cost of repair ranges from $300-600." I've copied this complaint from another owner because it's very accurate and well worded. It's unsafe for someone to be stranded in the middle of nowhere because they run out of gas because of a defective part. It's unsafe to run out of gas executing a maneuver at an intersection. Please help us.

2006 Nissan Xterra fuel gauge / ses light are inop.
- Fort Smith, AR, USA
The fuel sending unit is faulty, indicating an empty tank when full, and full or 1/2 tank when actually empty. First discovered when I ran out of gas on the highway unknowingly as the fuel gauge showed 1/2 tank and it was actually totally empty. Thank god there was no traffic when the engine stopped and caused the vehicle to slow abruptly!!!! Nissan has no recall as of yet, , when you look in Nissan forums online, there are hundreds of owners experiencing the same issue!!!

I have 2006 Nissan Xterra, fuel sending unit malfunctioning. Shows empty fuel tank even after filling. Check engine light comes on had the code read it says its the sending unit.

I have filled up my 2006 Nissan Xterra a few times now and it has showed on 3/4 full each time. I have done some research and found that other people are having the same problem and have identified the problem as the fuel sending unit or the fuel level sensor unit. I have not taken it into the dealership yet to confirm although I am hoping this will be covered under the warranty since my car has only 28K miles.

2006 Nissan Xterra off-road. Gas gauge no longer functions correctly. Ran out of fuel twice due to inaccurate gauge reading once it was in traffic and was a very hazardous situation.

Check engine light is on. Gas level incorrect. Purchased the vehicle new in 2006. In Aug 06, I took my vehicle in for this same problem. After several tries to repair, I started the lemon law process. They were able to "fix" it on the 3rd and final repair but now I am having the same problem again. I am told by the local dealership (hampton in ft. Walton beach, fl) that I would have to pay to have it repaired (between $400-$600). They have the previous documentation for the same problem and according to this website and others, there is clearly a defect with the vehicle.

In my '06 Nissan Xterra the service engine soon light came on. I was parked at the time the light came, and I was at.25 tank left of gas, after going to the gas station to fill up with gas, I got back in the vehicle and noticed that my gas gauge didn't move, and my service engine soon light stayed on. I drove around about 5 miles to get to tunex the fuel gauge never moved, and the service engine soon light stayed on. I took it to tunex on 5818 so. State, where they told me that they have seen this problem often in newer vehicles. At the cost of over $200.

I own a 2006 Nissan Xterra each time my fuel gauge gets to 1/4 of a tank of fuel, the meter falls down to empty. Even once I fill it up, it does not register the fuel. The service engine soon light has now started coming on. The problem started at right around 36,000 miles. Of course this problem is not warranted after 36K. My truck has 39,000 miles on it. I went to the dealer this past Friday and they want $330 to fix it. The cashier at service desk at Nissan admitted that it is a problem for the Xterra's and the pathfinder SUVS. She also said if I don't fix it immediately, it wont affect the vehicle actually running. I decided to see just how true this was and I am surprised to see just how many others have the same story at around the same mileage.
