Bought this vehicle second hand in 2011. Was in excellent condition, low mileage. May 2014 while driving on highway at 65mph the car simply stalled. Lost control of vehicle. No brakes, no steering, nothing. Luckily on small Cape Cod highway with little to no traffic. Coasted to stop and car would not start.
Had it towed to mechanic. Started immediately for him next day. He could not replicate problem. Second time I was coming upon rotary and again it just stalled. I had to go into woods. Towed...again, could not replicate problem. Too scared to drive car now. No satisfaction from GM complaint or even acknowledgement.
I Googled this issue and was horrified to see 100s of complaints; same car, same year, same issue. GM refused to fix or acknowledge. Now, July 2014, I am waiting for my car to be recalled for "ignition switch" failure as that is exactly what has happened to me. I am lucky I was not seriously hurt or killed! Millions of cars recalled now, more every day, but still not mine. I keep waiting. Contacted GM about this and they never even replied. Even went on their Twitter page and replied to their "Good morning, we are here 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., feel free to contact us regarding any problems or concerns". Not one reply. Now I see GM saying additional problem with key design. I have that exact key design. Still no recall.
I still owe $5000 on this car. I am 63 years old with no funds to buy another vehicle. I can't in good conscience sell this car to someone who might be killed in it. Unlike GM, who evidently is still and has been turning their backs on and ignoring crashes and deaths resulting from this issue for many years now. In 3 years time my repair costs for this vehicle have reached a little over $5000. Largest at one time was replacing the AWD which exploded while the car was idling in my driveway, 65,000 miles. Cost $1800. Then 4 months later the computer that controls the AWD automatically coming on when needed and going off when not needed, got stuck in on position. Transmission was slipping terribly. I had to have that computer replaced, $1000. It's been one thing after another. I still have the original window sticker from 2002 that says this car was sold for $37,000.
It's absolutely shameful and quite obvious that GM is not going to do one bit more than they are required to do by law in this recall. The consumer be damned. It's all about the $$$. Personally, I hope these recalls destroy this company.
