I had the same issue as in the brake pedal was hard to push on to get out of park and would make this bonging type noise again. I kept driving as I did not notice or know about if my brake lights were malfunctioning. Then in June 2016 I was throwing something in the trash at a gas station while my car was running and noticed my taillights on during the day when car was idle in park and the lights were very bright. I took it right to the mechanic and they said my brake light switch was bad and the replaced that part and charged me $91.00. I get the car back and it is still doing the same thing. Brake lights always illuminated unless I press on brake and then they go off. Called the mechanic back and said they fixed the wrong thing and they said well then you have something else wrong and It will be a separate thing/charge. So I started to research and it brought me here because this is a very dangerous issue, I am surprised I haven't been rear-ended yet and I have noticed people do fly around me when they have a chance and give me dirty looks. So next I will go across the street to the dealership and lucky that I live across the street cause I can't drive the car anymore as it is too scary.

The issues I had was shifter hard to get out of park unless I press on brake pedal extremely hard.

I am not sure as to whether my brake lights were working the opposite way or not but I am sure they were as they are working improperly now with the same symptoms. I also had a boinging type noise in my brake pedal after I started my car and pressed on the brake pedal. Like I said, I am not certain if the brake lights were malfunctioning at the time of my first incident. Took it to dealership and they adjusted shift control solinoid and replaced shift control reguest. They said it was fixed but it kept doing the same thing and it was finally fixed on 04/09/12 by mechanic replacing brake pedal sensor and was good up until October 2015 when same issues started again.

I recently bought this car used for my teenage daughter. At first i just thought that the cruise control didn't work, but then after experiencing issues with the brake lights not working properly, I did some research and found out that the two problems may be linked. This problem is in no way as important as the brake light issue, but it is still a problem.

My husband and I bought this car for our 16 year old daughter to drive. Fortunately, I was driving it with my husband driving the truck behind me when we discovered that the brake lights were acting up. I am really glad we noticed this problem before we started letting my teenage daughter drive the vehicle. The worst part about this problem is that you won't know its happening until either you get into an accident, get a ticket, or someone else asks if you were "riding your brakes". After we spent hours and hours trying it figure out what would cause this to happen, I got on Google and to my surprise, there was a lot of complaints about the same problem. I am sure that if this subject was on the news, there would be many, many more complaints. There are probably a ton of owners that don't even know they are experiencing the same thing. My advice to anyone that owns or buys a G6, have someone you trust drive behind you to verify that your lights are working properly.

G6 LX V6

This Pontiac GC started out with suspension issues. Basically had to replace the whole front suspension after owning the car for 2 years. Mechanic said there should be no reason to replace all that he did for the suspension (struts, shocks, tie rods, etc..) provided the work off the line was up to standards. Then power steering started to cut out when making frequent stops and turns. Found out this was a factory default and has a recall on it. I have been waiting for over a year now for the dealer ship to report they have the parts.

Now the brake light go out when I step on the brake pedal and turn on when I release the pedal (reverse of what it should do). Saw another Pontiac G6 on the highway doing the exact same thing. Figure this was most likely not a coincidence and needed to be report as Pontiac should be fixing this issue if it is a common problem on G6.

I was on a trip and 4 hours away from home and I was pulled over by a policeman who was kind enough to let me know that my brake lights were staying on. We 1st thought it may have been due to the brake light switch, but that was incorrect. Come to find out there was a recall for this issue and according to GM it was VIN specific and my car was not included.

G6 SE1

  • Automatic transmission
  • 140,000 miles

This is an ongoing problem for over 2 years now. I almost got rear ended the other day by a man and he pulled up next to me and said that my brake lights were going on when I was driving and going off when it looked like I should be hitting my brakes at a red light. He flagged me down on a highway for this. I paid $100 for a diagnostic test through GM themselves and they told me I needed a new brake pedal sensor because mine was no good. I had it replaced and I am still having this same problem.

Since contacting GM now for the 3rd time their only solution is for me to pay $100 AGAIN to have another diagnostic test done so that it may show something that was underlying that didn't appear on the first test!!!!! I am a single mom with two little girls and have made several complaints to GM about this issue with no avail. God willing, nobody does hit me because I don't have the money to keep paying for more diagnostic testing to get done.

When I called to see if it was recalled for my car they told me it was Vin specific and my Vin was NOT included!!!! As soon as I started having these "brake light problems" my cruise control went out and I can't use it and I have been having issues with my power steering. I don't know if these things are connected or not but it sure seems that way since it all went out at the same time.
