I have a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am, blinkers intermittently worked flashers worked/didn'twork when the blinkers did work. Didn't seem to be related to weather or any other conditions. Took off front of car where radio was and moved wires connecting to hazard light, seemed to be a short in the wire, possible. Problem started about 6 months ago. Blinkers worked about 60% of the time.

- the signal lights and hazard lights on the 2000 Pontiac Grand Am worked intermittently and could not be depended on. There was NHTSA recall O campaign id number : 03V327000, but the manufacturer informed the contact that this vehicle was not included with that recall due to the VIN. Updated 04/12/07.

: the contact stated while traveling 55 mph, there was a clicking noise coming from the dashboard and the lights failed to illuminate on the dashboard or the exterior of the vehicle. The service dealer replaced the exterior lighting: Flashing warning light unit. After a month, the failure occurred again. The turn signals failed as well, both on the instrument panel and the exterior of the vehicle. The service dealer and manufacturer were not contacted.

1) under normal use of the vehicle 2) intermittent turn signals or inoperative there is already a recall open on this for 2000 Pontiac Grand Am's however GM says my vehicle is not covered under this recall. Vehicle will not be repaired until GM agrees to pay for repair as problem I am having is exactly as described in open recall notice. Intermittent turn signal operation could result in future safety issues.

On the day I bought the car I took my family out to dinner. We returned to the car after finishing our dinner and the car would not start. We tried for almost 1/2 hour then called for the road side assistance. They came and picked up the car and we went to the dealership. They told me it was a computer component and the car would be ready the following day. After arguing on how we would get home since the dealership was now closed as was the rental car place they finally agreed to let a porter take us home, the porter had a small car that would only hold 4 people and there were 6 of us. Theis meant 2 trips and we lived nearly 30 minutes away. Long story short a very dissapointing first day with my new vehicle. Within a few months my drivers window would not work or worked when it felt like it. I took it in and they replaced the window regulator. Problem solved, then a few months later the window would not work again with the regulator. It worked for almost 2 years then it started up once again and still being under warrenty (gmpp) they took the car in to look at. I left it for a day and returned to be told the window was fine and yes it was working. A few more months go by and the window is not working so I go in again and again it works for them not me. This goes on with me taking the car in and the button works when the tec looks at it then after I leave it does not. I was in town 05/03/2004 and the window went part way down and stuck, I quickly went to rally Chevrolet, where all the repair services have been done, and showed them the window would not go up or down. I thought finally this will be taken care of but no I was told taht the warrenty was out and I was over mileage and the cost for the front and rear window would be nearly $1,000. I told the service manager that the problem existed before the warrenty ran out and I felt that they should honor that and not charge me.

Pontiac has a recall issued for over 600,000 Pontiac Grand Am for the hazard warning flasher and blinker signal. In August, I contacted Pontiac customer service and they told me a recall notice would be issued for my vehicle but the parts were not ready yet and it would be a few months. I had to replace the hazard warning switch because my flashers and blinkers stopped working and the dealership made me pay for it because they said they had no info on the recall yet. Now I am having the same problem with my vehicle again and not only does the dealership deny that there is a recall for my vehicle but Pontiac customer service says there is no recall for my vehicle. They had no trouble finding the original recall notice but now they deny it exists. They have never sent me a recall notice, although they have sent a notice to my wife who also has a Pontiac Grand Am of the same year as mine! how can they acknowledge a recall for a defective part on my car, that I have already had to replace once and now have to replace a second time, and then deny the recall exists 10 months later. I believe they are trying to get out of their responsibility to replace the defective part

The blinkers on my 2000 Grand Am only work intermittently. Hitting the hazard switch fixes the problem for a time. This problem sounds just like that on GM recall # 03043 (NHTSA recall # 03V327000), but when I contacted my dealership they told me my VIN # was not included in the recall. I think the recall needs to be extended to cover all affected vehicles.

I own a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am GT which GM was set to recall the warning/hazard lights on as of September 2003. Because they did not have sufficient parts for the recall, they were postponing contacting consumers until the end of the first quarter of 2004. The recall states that if you are currently having a problem to go to your dealer and get it replaced. I did this because my turn signal was not working all the time and I just had a brand new baby in my family and did not want to get in an accident because I was not able to properly signal. After getting the part replaced, I had to pay for it and be out the money until GM "offically" issues the recall. I think this is a terrible policy which endagers motorists. If I had not seen the news on the NHTSA site about the recall, I would never had known to get it fixed right away. I believe GM should immediately refund the fee I paid for the part and labor because it was their negligence that caused me to replace it.

I purchased a used 2000 Pontiac Grand Am SE in Sept. Of 2003, in December of 2003 I started having a problem with the signal lights, they only work sometimes, at first I thought I blew a fuse, that was changed at the garage, and they stopped working again on my way home...since then I lose them about five times a week, its exactly the problem discribed in the article telling about recall number 03043, I called the Pontiac hotline with my VIN number and was told that particular recall does not pertain to my vehicle......thats funny, its doing exactly what the recall states needs fixing........cheryl ames.

The turn signals/ hazard signal, work at times but then don't at other times. You never know when you are turning whether they will work or not. I found on the GM web site as well as your site, that there was a recall for this problem. GM however says that the recall does not cover my particular car because it was maufactured Aug of 99 and the recall is for cars built between Feb. 2000 & May 2001. If the car is experencing the exact same problem, which is a definate safety problem shouldn't the recall cover my car? people traveling behind me are not going to know my intentions to turn if the signals decide not to work at that particular time. Thank you in advance for your assistance with my safety concern. Tonya andrews.

My fiancS 2000 Grand Am has a problem with the flasher hazard and turn signals. The flasher for these circuits is constantly clicking when neither switch is activated. It is a very irregular clicking much faster than normal. None of the lights are flashing on (indicating a direct short to ground to me). When either switch is activated, the clicking is normal slower rhythmic sound and the lights appear to function properly. A Pontiac service technician stated that from the number of repairs they have done in recent months, the problem is a shorting in the turn signal switch. The cost of repair is about $400 to $500, due to the time involved (two hours or more) and the cost of the part ($300 $350). He stated that as long as you can live with the noise it is not a problem. My fianc makes about $800 a month and this cost is far more than she can afford, so she has decided not to have it repaired. I am concerned that the only way this flasher would click is if power flowing through it caused by a short. This constant flow of power being fed through this flasher, which is in the top center of the dash, I fear could either cause a complete failure of these circuits and/or cause a fire in the electrical wiring under the dash and steering column. If indeed this short is in the steering columnS turn signal switch, could this also be a concern for a premature deployment of the driverS air bag?
