Update from Mar 16, 2016: took to dealer for a second time because cruise stopped working again. told dealer about wire harness issue I found here. took over a day to fix, but put new wire harness. Seemed to fix problem. We will see.

1500 V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 15,000 miles

The cruise control will not hold when going downhill and has never held. I have brought the vehicle to three different Dodge Ram dealers and none have been able to fix the problem. The maintenance staff where I bought the truck (Naples, FL) said that cruise control is not supposed to hold when going down hill!! You are supposed to always apply the brake. I thought the guy was ill prepared for in every other vehicles that I have owned, including two ford trucks and all my cars, cruise control holds when going down hill. I called Ram support, indicated the problem, and they assured me that the cruise control should hold going down hill. But no one has been able to fix the problem.

I have a second home in Ellijay, Georgia where there are plenty of hills. I brought the truck to a Ram dealer in Blue Ridge. They test drove the truck, and agreed that the cruise control does not hold when going down hill. However, they had no fix. They talked to the mechanics at the Ram plant, and they had no solution.

Accordingly, in hilly country I do not use cruise control because on a steep hill the vehicle will quickly exceed my setting by as much as 15 mph. It is dangerous. Furthermore I want to avoid getting a speeding ticket.

1500 Big Horn 3.0L Diesel

  • Automatic transmission
  • 16,000 miles

Cruise control doesn't activate. I push the buttons on the steering wheel but nothing happens. It's been to the dealer twice but it magically starts working a few days before the appointment. Dealer says bring it back when it stops working, but that's hard to do when you have to book service appointments 3-4 months in advance for warranty stuff.
