1500 SLT 5.7L V6 Hemi

  • Automatic transmission
  • 45,000 miles

The power steering failed on my Ram that has only 45,000 miles on it! The steering wheel wouldn’t move at all so I took it into the dealership. The guy at the dealership had no idea why this issue occurred. He had never heard of this happening before and he just attributed it to a ‘faulty power steering system’. I had to have the entire power steering rack, etc replaced so that I could use the truck. It cost me $4500! Come to find out there are some Rams that have been recalled for this exact issue, but for some reason my Ram is not included in that recall. Why is that? The whole situation makes no sense. I contacted MOPAR about the issue and to see if they would make it right and they pretty much just blew me off because there’s no recall on my specific truck. It’s ridiculous!

1500 SLT Big Horn 5.7L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 130,000 miles

I have a 2016 Ram 1500 Crew Cab SLT Big Horn 4x4 that in September of 2022 we was making a right hand turn that had a bump in the road and suddenly the driver information center displayed Service Power Steering System and the steering wheel locked in the turn position for about 5 seconds. After that day it would happen at least once or twice a week. We immediately started trying to figure out what was causing this issue with my truck. At that time I could not really find any information about it, I called my local dealership, that as always treats females as if we have no clue what we are talking about so I gave up and my husband who is a diesel mechanic started looking into it and discovered the EPS and that my truck has the Rack & Pinion System.

Now July 2023 and my truck does it Every single time you drive it; along with added issues... It locks the steering wheel spontaneously while driving down the city streets or on the interstate, and the system with ding but nothing will display. As well from the speed of 10mph to 75mph the truck shakes from the front end like crazy, at slower speeds it shakes side to side and at higher speeds it just sakes all over the place...

Unfortunately the campaign 16V61700 only covers from Jan 2015 to Sept 2015 trucks and my trucks DOM is Jan 13,2016. This issue needs to be addressed before someone gets hurt or worse dies due to them not wanting to include more trucks with other DOM Dates... My truck has 164,xxx miles on it and not abused by any means but now I am to the point of terrified to be in it let alone drive it. I can't trade it in because of this issue it's at the point of unsafe, so no dealership is going to want to allow me to trade it in on another vehicle... Something has got to be done about this sooner than later. To replace the Rack & Pinion System and the EPS Module is going to cost me over $ 4,000 at the dealership. Which it has to go there to get done we do not have a lift or means to accommodate my truck at our shop since we are a Heavy Repair Shop...

1500 R/T 5.7L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 79,000 miles

POWER STEERING FAILED @ 79,000 MILES. Dealer unable to supply replacement part, 45 plus days on backorder Hendrick of Charleston, and after numerous calls to local parts houses, I purchased replacement from Parts Geek which was defective, had to return. REORDERED from CARID which did a excellent job of shipping and the return core process. Had unit installed by independent garage overnight.

And this item was a RECALL in 2016 but my vin number was not included.

Bottom line this should not have failed this early on a car that was never off road or abused. I was without a vehicle for 3 weeks and if I had taken to the dealer it would have been longer! and at a cost of over $2000.00.

  • Automatic transmission
  • 22,362 miles

2016 Dodge Ram with only 22k miles on it and the power steering failed. Dealer said the Electric Power Steering Rack needs to be replaced which costs $2,500. The part is on a month long backorder and the mechanic said this is a widely know problem. Other dodge ram models/years have been part of a recall.
