  • 60,000 miles
Our 2006 Saturn Ion has a major leak in the fuel pump reservoir. The leak is defined in NHTSA campaign id number 09V419000 and is listed as a recall 09226A. Dealer is confirming this is the problem our vehicle has, but GM says this as a 'special policy' repair bulletin number 09275 and not a recall 09226A. GM is refusing to fix the issue because our vehicle has a branded title as salvage. They will repair a salvage titled vehicle under a 'recall' but not on a 'special policy' extension. Dealer stated the issue is the leaky fuel pump and not cuased by any other damage. Apparently there are a lot of 2006 Saturn Ion's with the same issue that GM has slid around fixing because they didn't make it a recall, but a special policy and this is a fuel leak on the pump and a major safety issue due to an admitted faulty component.

NHTSA campaign id number: 09V419000. Fuel leakage. I had the same exact problem with my 2006 Saturn Ion but yet it is not covered under the recall due to it being registered in Colorado. I had to replace the part myself at $400. I saved the original fuel pump just in case you decide to add Colorado to the recall list for this. Why would the same exact problem that is listed in the recall not be covered due to a different state. I think this is unfair.

NHTSA # 09V41900. My 2006 Ion had this exact issue and I had to repair at my own cost because I live in Maryland. My car was leaking fuel as described in this recall. It's the same car with the same defective part, but I wasn't eligible for the recall repair. This is an outrage!! why should it matter what state I live in" if it is supposedly related to temperature extremes, the East coast has been abnormally hot this year. It still shouldn't matter. I had to get it repaired because I needed my car. I should be reimbursed by GM for this repair. Didn't my tax dollars assist in the GM bailout????" I have contacted my senator, my state's attorney general and my personal attorney. There is simply no argument as to why this money shouldn't be refunded to me. Please reply. Updated IVOQ 12/22/10

Smell of gas at back of car on passenger side. Took vehicle to have oil changed and they found gasoline leaking. Saturn dealership pointed out one of the fuel lines had cracked. I bought the car 2 months before the problem was discovered. Had to replace the entire fuel pump assembly. This was a recall on the 2004 Ion. Did they really fix the problem from the 2004 or does the 2006 have the same problem. Phone interview (August 4, 2009): The complainant indicated that the fuel tank had not been removed previously as far as she knows. The repair invoice indicates that the fuel pump was leaking and was replaced.
