can't go over 25 MPH On 8/31/12, I purchased a Red, 2007 Saturn Outlook with 93169 miles. On 11/8/12 the transmission went out. Took to dealer who says it is out of warranty and will charge $500 just to take out transmission to see what is wrong. I think they knew what was wrong with the vehicle when they sold it... it is all over the internet that they have problems with this vehicle. Vehicle just outside of Warranty. Sample complaints filed with NHTSI:

CONSUMER COMPLAINT: ODI Case Number: 10193393

Component: POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

Details: I OWN A 2007 SATURN OUTLOOK AND AM VERY DISAPPOINTED ON THE SHIFTING OF THE TRANSMISSION INTO HIGHER GEARS AT LOW SPEEDS. IF I AM TRAVELING AROUND 45 TO 50 MPH THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTED INTO 6TH GEAR, DROPPING THE TACHOMETER AROUND 1100 TO 1200 RPMS. THIS, IN TURN, PUT A STRAIN ON THE ENGINE, AND WHEN THE ACCELERATOR WAS STEPPED ON, THE CAR RUMBLED AND THE FLOORD BOARDS ACTUALLY VIBRATED. IT WAS ANNOYING, AND IT UPSET ME THAT THE MANUFACTURER WILL NOT CORRECT THE SHIFTING PROBLEM BECAUSE IT WILL CHANGE THE FUEL ECONOMY OF THE VEHICLE. AK

Component: POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

Details: TLTHE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 SATURN OUTLOOK. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD ROLL BACKWARDS ON AN INCLINE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS RELEASED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THIS IS NORMAL TRANSMISSION OPERATION AS COMPARED TO SIMILAR MODELS. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 1,722 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100. THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE CONTINUES TO ROLL BACK ON AN INCLINE UNTIL BRAKE IS ENGAGED. UPDATED 09/05/07 TR

CONSUMER COMPLAINT: ODI Case Number: 10243321

Component: POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

Details: VEHICLE HAS LAGS (CAR DOESNT PICK UP SPEED WHEN ACCELERATOR IS PRESSED DOWN) AT SEVERAL DIFFERENT SPEEDS. MOST NOTICEABLE IS THE 40 MILE AN HOUR RANGE. SEVERAL TIMES I HAVE BEEN ATTEMPTING TO GET ON HIGHWAY AND NOT BE ABLE TO ADVANCE THE VEHICLE IN A SAFE MANNER. ONE TIME, A TRUCK WAS VERY CLOSE TO HITTING ME, BECAUSE IT TOOK ABOUT 2 SECONDS FOR MY VEHICLE TO RESPOND TO THE ACCELERATOR. DEALER HAS PERFORMED 3 SOFTWARE UPDATES (DEALER HAS ADMITTED THAT THESE UPDATES HAVE BEEN PROVIDED TO THE CONSUMER AND HAVE BEEN INSTRUCTED TO PERFORM THESE UPDATES) TO THE TRANSMISSION, BUT THE PROBLEM IS STILL OCCURRING AND THEY CLAIM THAT THERES NOTHING ELSE THEY CAN DO. THERE WAS AN UNUSUAL INCREASE IN ENGINE RPMS AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO FIFTH GEAR. THE VEHICLE WAS SLOWLY DRIVEN BACK TO HER RESIDENCE. LATER THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN AND THE THIRD GEAR STOPPED WORKING. SHE STATED THE VEHICLE ATTEMPTED TO INDEPENDENTLY SHIFT FROM SECOND TO THIRD GEAR BUT TO NO AVAIL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOUR TIMES WHERE THE DEALER REPLACED THE CLUTCH PLATE AND OTHER DAMAGED PARTS. THE TRANSMISSION SEALS AND SENSOR WERE ALSO REPLACED DUE TO A LEAK. CONSUMER COMPLAINT: ODI Case Number: 10395400

Component: POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

Details: WE WERE DRIVING WHEN ALL OF THE SUDDEN OUR TRANSMISSION STARTED TO SHIFT ERRATICALLY. WHEN WE WERE AT A STOP SIGN, I WENT TO PULL OUT AND RELIZED THAT WE HAD LOST THE FIRST 2 GEARS AND WERE ALMOST HIT BY AN ON COMING VEHICLE WHEN THE CAR FAILED TO MOVE AT THE RIGHT SPEED. THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT NEEDS TO BE DEALT WITH BEFORE SOME IS INJURED OR KILLED. TR

CONSUMER COMPLAINT: ODI Case Number: 10419398

Component: POWER TRAIN:DRIVELINE

Details: ON 08/13/2011, I WAS TRAVELING ON NORTHBOUND I-95 WHEN A LOUD BOOM OCCURED AND THE CAR BEGAN LURCHING OUT OF CONTROL BRINGING THE TIRES OFF OF THE GROUND. I MANAGED TO GET THE VEHICLE UNDER CONTROL AND DISCOVERED THE BOLTS ON THE DRIVESHAFT HAD LOOSENED AND FELL OFF, RESULTING IN THE DRIVESHAFT STRIKING THE PAVEMENT "LIKE A CATAPULT" AND OBSERVED THE DRIVESHAFT LAYING UNDER THE CAR, DISABILING THE VEHICLE IN TRAFFIC WITH NO CONTROL. HAD MY INFANT AND TWO OTHER CHILDREN IN THE CAR AND THEY WERE FLUNG ABOUT DURING THE INCIDENT. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THE BOLTS ON THE DRIVESHAFT HAVE LOOSENED AND FALLEN OFF, RENDERING THE VEHICLE INOPERABALE AND CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO LOSE CONTROL WHEN THE DRIVESHAFT STRIKES THE PAVEMENT. THE LAST ONE (04/10) OCCURED AT A LOW SPEED BUT STILL CAUSED THE TIRES TO LEAVE THE GROUND. SATURN HAS ISSUED A TBI FOR THE BOLTS BUT HAS NOT FIXED THE PROBLEM AS EVIDENCED BY THIS MOST RECENT INCIDENT. *TR

CONSUMER COMPLAINT: ODI Case Number: 10454730

Component: POWER TRAIN

Details: WHILE DRIVING WITH MY FAMILY ON THE HIGHWAY, WE BEGAN TO EXPERIENCE UNUSUAL GEAR SHIFTING. IT FELT AS THOUGH THE VEHICLE DIDNT KNOW WHICH GEAR TO BE IN. WE MADE IT HOME, AND THEN A FEW HOURS LATER I STARTED THE CAR AND THE TRANSMISSION WAS MAKING THE SOUND OF A FAN BEING SPUN WAY TOO FAST. WE STARTED TO DRIVE AND THE GEAR SHIFTING WAS AGAIN ERRATIC. AFTER STOPPING TO CHECK IT THEN GETTING BACK ON THE ROAD WE NO LONGER HAD THE FIRST 3 GEARS. I WOULD HAVE TO PRESS ON THE GAS PEDDLE ALMOST TO THE FLOOR TO GET THE CAR MOVING AGAIN. I CALLED GM AND THEY SAID TAKE IT TO A DEALERSHIP FOR A DIAGNOSES [OUR LOCAL DEALERSHIP IS HORRIBLE]. THEY SAID IF ITS FOUND TO BE MANUFACTURER THEY "MAY" BE ABLE TO HELP US, BUT THAT OUR POWER-TRAIN WARRANTY EXPIRED THE MONTH BEFORE SO THERE WOULDNT BE ANY GUARANTEES. I FOLLOWED MY GUT AND DECIDED TO REMAIN A PERSON AND NOT A NUMBER BY TAKING IT TO A LOCAL TRANSMISSION REPAIR SHOP WITH A GREAT REPUTATION. THEY CALLED THIS MORNING AND SAID ILL BE NEEDING A NEW TRANSMISSION. A FEW MINUTES LATER THE GM REP CALLED AND SAID THEY WOULDNT BE ABLE TO HELP ME OUT (HE LOOKED INTO IT FOR ME). THIS IS ONLY 3 MONTHS AFTER THE POWER STEERING PUMP FAILED. BEFORE THAT IT WAS THE PASSENGER AIRBAG SENSOR THAT WENT OUT. *TR

CONSUMER COMPLAINT: ODI Case Number: 10458220

Component: POWER TRAIN

Details: ISSUE BEGAN AS A JERKY MOVEMENT IN REVERSE. A FEW DAYS LATER, HIGH ENGINE RPMS WERE NOTICED DURING ACCELERATION WHICH EVENTUALLY LED TO THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BEING LIT AND THE TRANSMISSION BEING DISENGAGED. NO GEARS WERE OPERATING AND CAR WAS ABLE TO BE PULLED OFF THE MAIN ROADS WITH NO INCIDENTS. MANY ONLINE FORUMS DESCRIBE A SIMILAR ISSUE WITH THE GMC ACADIA, CHEVROLET TRAVERSE, AND BUICK ENCLAVE AS WELL AND ACROSS SEVERAL MODEL YEARS FOR EACH VEHICLE. CONSUMER COMPLAINT: ODI Case Number: 10466383

Component: POWER TRAIN

Details: WHILE TRAVELING HOME FROM A VACATION, MADE A BRIEF STOP, ONCE THE CAR REACHED 35 MPH THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPED AND WE LOST ALL ABILITY TO ACCELERATE. ENGINE RPMS WOULD INCREASE WITH NO ACCELERATION, ENGINE TEMPERATURE SPIKED. COASTED TO A STOP ON SIDE OF ROAD AND CHECKED FLUID LEVELS.AFTER RESTARTING, HAD LOST 3RD, 5TH AND REVERSE. DROVE CAR 10 MILES IN 2ND GEAR TO ONLY REPAIR SHOP IN 50 MILE RADIUS. MECHANIC HOPED FOR BAD SOLENOID BUT UNFORTUNATELY THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION WAS DAMAGED. 3 MONTHS OUT OF WARRANTY, GM WILL NOT ASSIST FINANCIALLY. NEW GM TRANSMISSION REPLACED IN VEHICLE $3200 LATER. *TR

Now also bought a 2008 GMC Acadia the day before the 2007 Saturn transmission went out and upon doing research discovered that: http://www.saturnoutlookforum.net/index.php?topic=2083.0

It is time for General Motors to step up to the plate... we did, when they needed to be bailed out. They did to fix their defects in workmanship.
