I owned a Scion Tc 2006. I bought it on Jan 10, 2006. Few weeks ago, I started to notice and hear a rattle noise on the roof area. On May 4, 2006 while driving on the highway @ a speed of 55 mph. The moon roof snapped and shattered. The glass chunks fell into the driver and passenger, kind of like a glass chunks rains that actually may cut you. We were covered in glass. I lost control of the car, due to frighten and glass all over, swirled left and right. I'm so fortunate that I didn't harmed anyone next to me or other drivers on the road. I'm really worry about driving such car. There is no warning to the buyer when such purchase was made by the dealer or the company. I hope you will take a serious action fast before an innocent person life is taken. Please help. Thank you so much for taking the time to read my complaint. Please help. If you have any questions, please send me an email. Email reply on May 18, 2006 confirmed that it was the sun/moon roof (not the wind deflector) that shattered.

April 06, I bought a Scion Tc. I am 47 yrs old & wanted something sporty, couldn't afford over 20,000. So happy until 2 days ago, now do to hurricane katrina I commute to work. As I was traveling I heard & felt like an explosion on top of my roof. I thought maybe a plane dropped something, I was shaking & pulled off the highway, took quick look, it was late and I was all alone. The next day I went to the dealership their was glass all over. The wind deflector glass was shattered & pieces of glass missing. I went back across the street to the dealership and spoke with a salesman and he couldn't believe it, he said wait! their is a recall we can change it and fix it, go to service and ask for __. I could hear the salesman, you have to fix it! its a brand new car! the service rep finally came to my car and said we will fix it this time but if you drive away and it happens again then we wont because this car is not under the recall because the laminate has already been put on the car. I had no idea, he explained that the recall is to stop the shattered glass from coming into the car and injuring passengers or causing the driver to have an accident but that still can happen and big pieces of glass can fall in. I cried, I take my grandson (2) on weekends & he loves the sun roof. Service mgr said only thing I can do is leave the sun roof closed or trade in the car! I talked to manager of sales & he said call Toyota because he only sells the car he does not design them! now I have to trade a 1 month old car in or chance glass falling in my eyes while driving or injuring my family. I spent extra for side airbags so family would be safe & now they're afraid. I left the car @ dealership they wanted me to test drive a corolla, they will give me 16,000, I paid 18,500. I called Toyota Scion, they didn't call me back today they said they would, I have no choice, because I wont let a new car hurt my family. They tell me the same thing can happen the very next day!

I was driving to work at approximately 8:30 in the morning at around 70 mph on hwy 40 in St. Louis when my sunroof exploded. The actual sunroof exploded and not the wind deflector. The sunroof was fully closed and the wind deflector was as well. I keep the sunroof cover open most of the time so I get more light into the car and as a result glass rained down into my car. Upon inspection, I found that the glass of the sunroof was completely shattered and did not crack like a spider-web, but like someone had set a bomb off on top of it. The wind deflector was undamaged. I contacted my dealer and they were very accusatory and said a rock or other debris must have broken it. I still fail to see how a rock big enough to shatter the glass like it did got by me with me seeing it. If a huge rock was bouncing in the middle of the road, I would have definitely seen it. Another thing that made that claim ridiculous was the fact that there were no large trucks or otherwise carrying anything within sight at the time it happened. Sunroof glass breakage.pco

My boyfriend and I were driving my car on a clear, sunny day at highway speeds with the air conditioner running and all windows closed on I-495 in Maryland, when we heard a loud pop. Thinking that there was something wrong with the car or the tires I pulled to the side of the road where I then discovered that it was the moon roof wind deflector shattered. Glass was falling in though the cover for the moonroof on our head. We ended up switching places and taking the back roads to the dealership. I called them and let them know what happened and found that they were very accusatory. We explained that we had not passed under any overpasses and no debris were observed either visually or heard while in the car coming from the road or another car. Once dropping it off they tried to make me feel as if it was me and that my insurance may have to handle it. After a month of dealing with them they returned the car with a new moon roof and freshly painted rear spoiler. Recently I found an article in the wall street journal stating that Toyota motor Corp in recalling 71,000 05-06 Scion Tc's. that was a huge relief to me, seeing as the dealership made it seem that it was a very limited problem and only a few cases have come about.

I was driving at about 35 mph with my sunroof open when debris of some sort hit my wind deflector. It shattered the glass wind deflector and covered the interior of my car with glass. I brought my car to the dealership that I purchased it from, only two weeks earlier, and they said that I had to pay for it. The part is $568. The dealership also charged me $70 just to close my sunroof. It is still broke because I cannot afford the part.
