Forester 2.5 X Premium 2.5L H4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 42,000 miles

I bought this car in 2017 with under 25,000 miles on it. The car drove well and looked good, as you would expect with less than 25,000 on the odometer. The CarFax was clean and showed no issues.

A year after owning the car, it had 42,000 miles on it, I was driving north on I-5 in Washington State when the car began spinning in several circles on the interstate. It turns out that the rear passenger-side tie end rod had snapped in half, which caused the rear wheel to step out of line.

When it was eventually towed to a shop and placed on a lift it turns out that the tie end rod had mostly rusted through. The technician also pointed out that there were other severely corroded parts that the dealership had left undisclosed. It does not seem normal for a car to have such a vital component rust through at just over 40,000 miles. Subaru of America has been no help and completely blown me off.
