The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for unrelated maintenance when the contact was advised that the entire sub frame was corroded and required replacement. The contact owns a 2002 Subaru Impreza. The contact stated that the vehicle was included in the recall associated with NHTSA campaign id number 11V464000 (suspension:front:control arm:lower arm). The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and the contact was informed that the front frame rails and sub-frame were also corroded. The contact was also informed that these additional components were not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired because the additional components were not included in the recall and the contact was informed that the vehicle was not safe to drive. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and offered no assistance. The failure and current mileages were 92,181. Updated 02/09/12 the dealer informed the consumer the frame rails were corroded to the point that the vehicle was unsafe to drive due to the same salt corrosion which produced a recall. The consumer was informed the sub frame would have to be replaced at her cost in order for the recall part to be replaced. The manufacturer agreed to the reimburse the consumer a partial amount.
