Subaru has always been my dream car to buy, especially the WRX. I currently own the 2017 Limited model and have only owned it for 3 months and the clutch has already gone on me. The car only has 7800 kilometers on it, but the moment I picked it up I've had nothing but issues.
First came the really bad smell I'd get when shifting into different gears and I took it to a dealership nearby. I had the service manager view my driving habits as I drove around and he said they were OK and that the smell would go away in time - that was about a month ago. To some extent, the smell wasn't as frequent but what came later was far worse. My clutch was getting a bit harder to put into first and then gears were slipping. Eventually the revs were jumping at random, the gear display kept showing the wrong gear selection, and my biting point became non existent.
I took it into another dealership nearby Pickering and they've told me the clutch is gone due to driving error, which is completely bogus because I've been a spirited driver with it, at best. Upon doing research on this, I've discovered a lot more people having the same issue in earlier models with a lot more km/m on their cars than mine. I've only owned the car for 3 months!
I called Subaru of Canada to report the issue, but as they reminded me MANY times on each call, the warranty doesn't cover wearable items, which I find a bit odd. So now I'm looking at a price North of 1000 to replace the clutch plus labor and also having to fork out for my rental expenses since Subaru didn't have a loaner. Confidence in Motion is a joke. I'd advise anyone thinking of purchasing ANY car to really do their research. Research complaints, read reviews, test drive your vehicle, and read your warranties.
This is the first Subaru I've ever had and it'll possibly be my last.
