Camry LE V4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 170,000 miles

My car has excessive oil consumption but Toyota dealer refused to cover it under Toyota warranty enhancement because it has 198,640 miles. I discovered the problem when the car was under the warranty enhancement period but the Toyota dealer blamed the low oil on an oil pan gasket leak. I waited over a year before I fixed the leak and when I did just few month ago, my Toyota camry still low on oil. I took it few days ago to the same dealership and they told me there is no oil leak and it is low on oil because my car has excessive oil consumption and I need to replace the piston assembly to fix it which cost about $4900 and told me since the car has now 198,640 the warranty enhancement program is not going to cover it. I told them that it has been doing low on oil over a year an half ago which was under the enhancement warranty. They had me talk to Toyota hot-line but could not get it approved for repairs.

Please help me solve this issue with Toyota.

Thank you,

Imad

Car-2007 Toyota Camry 179000+ miles.

Bought a Toyota brand name in 2007 because they are so dependable.... Traded a 1996 Honda Accord for it with only 150k never used oil. I love the Camry but probably won't buy another Toyota product if they don't recognize and fix this oil consumption issue.

How many miles before the Catalytic Converter plugs up?? Then I can't drive it until I pay big$ AND the oil problem continues... Very Very disappointed! Come on Toyota let's make this right!

Never had a problem like this with the "beaters" we needed to buy when family was growing up.

We first caught this problem while changing plugs at around 140,000 miles. We were halfway through an oil change and found the oil level down a quart. Since then been checking and topping off as needed. Use to need top off once during oil change cycle, now it's 2-3 times. We get oil change at dealership so they provide free top offs. I have to carry oil " just in case " when we travel". Pain in the Butt! Who wants to lift the hood in a Holiday Inn parking lot? Looks bad for Toyota, right?

Brought this car in March 2017 with 118,000 miles from dealership. Aginst advice to by a GM or Ford product. Had 2600 miles on oil change and herd a noise. Stopped at a local gas station and had them check the oil. NONE ON THE STICK!!! Added three quarts. Took the car back where I bought it. Now the say it needs a engine due to excessive oil consumption. Called Toyota and they told me there had been a program on this but it had expired so I could go F*CK MYSELF. This is the worst piece of sh*t vehicle on the road so don't beleive all the bullshit about them going 2-3000,000 miles. Unless they are on the back of a wrecker.

Toyota issued a TSB for this "excessive oil consumption" problem. Owners were told to take their vehicles to dealers for a "test" to see how much oil was used in 1200 miles. If more than a quarter, Toyota would fix; if not, no fix.

I took the car for a test and just barely "passed", so the dealer said there was nothing they could do.

One year later the problem has gotten worse and oil consumption is going at an even faster rate. I called Toyota Customer service and they said (case #1708302982) that since the car is more than 10 years old, they no longer offer the TSB extended warranty protection if a car does not pass their test.

So, I'm stuck.

Unless Toyota relents and does an actual "recall" to fix this problem.

Have owned this Camry since new. This car started using oil after it was 4 years old. In the last 18 months it has started smoking after setting for a few hours and is very embarrassing. We never received a letter from Toyota in regards to the oil consumption issue test that was going on. I found out about the test on my own and had it done. It did pass their so called test. This car currently has 133,000 miles on it and Toyota is not willing to offer any help in anyway. In my opinion this car does not have the value it should with this problem and couldn't sell it with good conscientious as if it had no problems. Oooo what a feeling Toyota!!!

The engine is going through a quart about every 1000 miles. The mileage, for a Camry is moderate. Not sure what Toyota might do for repair. If they've known about the problem, it would have been appropriate to notify us and recommend a remedy. We've had a few Camrys and I like to think that they remain a reliable car.

We purchased the Camry from a private party here in town. We were not told of oil consumption. Sometime around the fall of 2016 we noticed the issue. Now it is 1 quart of oil every 1000 miles, or more...The Toyota dealer had no idea. The local garages thought it perhaps was a leak. There was no information I could find, until in the first part of May 2017 I found the "warranty enhancement" 10years/150,000 miles. I immediately called my local dealer with the LSC and was told that my 10 years ran out on March 1 2017, less than 90 days prior. Now they seem to be more than happy to tell me all about this horrible issue I have and need to get fixed. Or, as I was told by the Service Manager -and I quote-"trade it in, and if you like the car, have a brother or son buy it back. then have the dealership fix it and it would be covered under the "lemon law"....

and Toyota HQ is absolutely NO HELP.

yesterday I took the camry to Toyota, they had me pay for an oil change to test the excessive oil consumption on the engine. when I changed the spark plugs last week the 3rd cylinder plug in from the left was saturated with oil, so I looked up the recall info on this car and found that it has a problem with the piston ring engineering from the factory so I took it to have the test. I get pissed when they told me that other gaskets are leaking, making it sound like that is what they will blame it on when I bring it back after 1200 miles driven from yesterdays date.now I'm waiting. has anyone been through this process?

My 2007 Toyota Camry has this on going oil consumption issue that Toyota Corporation recalled but refused to fix on my car. I only use Toyota dealerships to do oil changes on my car, and on several occasions, the Toyota Tech informed me that my oil level was dangerously low. I discovered there was a problem when a neighbor of mine randomly checked my oil and told me it was too low (this was only about 3 months after my last oil change).

Recently when I took my car in for an oil change since I was planning on going out of town and using my car for the trip, I asked the tech to check the oil level before he began working on my car, again, he told me the level was too low and asked when was the last time I had the oil changed. I told him within 3 months and for him to check Toyota's database for the record of it. He did the oil change and checked my car thoroughly for any leaks and told me there wasn't, so it must be the oil consumption problem.

I have had the oil consumption test done on my car 3 times since I discovered the "dangerously low oil level" problem in 2015, and all 3 times I did not qualify for the fix that Toyota offers. I am so frustrated by this issue and it is costing me every time I go on long trips, I have to rent a car because I'm afraid the oil will get too low and damage my engine. Obviously there is a problem and I cannot understand why Toyota Corporation is refusing to fix it, especially since there is a recall. I'm losing trust in Toyota vehicles! I have bought several Toyota vehicles over the past 30 years, but will no longer if they don't rectify this problem and some other problems I have with my 2077 Camry!

Toyota is telling me that my 2007 Camry is no longer protected under the program that they created for excessive oil consumption. Apparently I am 5 months past the date that this program was in place - I just found out about it less then a month ago and was informed by the oil change company to contact Toyota. I didn't realize that there was even a program to help with the excessive oil consumption of my vehicle. Prior to myself being the registered owner my father was, neither myself nor my father was informed or provided any communication with respect to my eligibility.

I want to know my options - what can I do ? How do I protect myself ? I heard there is a class action lawsuit, how do I find out more? I want Toyota to fix this problem - they have admitted it is an issue. There has to be some recourse for individuals in my situation. Any tips?

Camry EX 4L

I noticed having to put oil in the car in between oil changes quite frequently, sometimes up to 2 to 3 quarts. In addition during oil changes, the mechanic would show me that there was no oil on the dipstick. I received an extended warranty notification from Toyota about excessive engine consumption and if I was having problems, to come in an have an oil consumption test. The first test passed, and I asked Toyota, but what about the excessive oil consumption and not having oil on the dipstick? What would happen if the warranty expired and my engine seized? I was told by the Front Office Manager at my Toyota dealer that " just because there is no oil on the dipstick it doesn't mean there isn't any oil in the car. I said but there is no oil on the dipstick and no oil warning light is coming on. I asked her when would the oil warning light come on when the engine seized! She told me I could come in and have another oil consumption test before the warranty expiration in Oct 2016, which I did and once again it passed. So here I am in June, 2017 still having the same issue. My brother, a mechanic, told me I should go into Toyota and demand they pay for my oil top off every time it's low.

I also called Toyota Corporation and reported my problem. The gentlemen noted my issues and said it didn't sound "normal."

I also had one front office employee at my Toyota dealer tell me he was having the same issue.

I want to trade the car in before I end up with a seized engine!

Toyota has been very unhelpful with this oil consumption problem. We had two tests done both times we were told is was ok and in acceptable limits of oil loss total BS. Camry LE 4

I recently noticed that my car needs oil more frequently. I took it to a mechanic who advised me of the Warranty Enhancement Program (the fancy word that Toyota wants to use instead of Recall) regarding the Toyota Camry's. I contacted Toyota and was advised that my vehicle was under the warranty. I dropped my vehicle off so we can begin the Oil Consumption process. A few hours later I receive a call from the dealership that the vehicle is not covered under the warranty. I was informed that it goes by the date of first use or 150,000 miles. Since I bought the car pre-owned that it does not go by the date I purchased it. I called the 800 number and filed a complaint. I have made attempts to talk to a supervisor but had the same response that they cannot help me. I am frustrated and annoyed and I need my vehicle fixed. I have only owned Toyota Camry's and this will be the last one I own. I am very disappointed the way Toyota is handling this matter.

Okay, so a few months back my check oil light comes on and I think it is odd, because I am really good about maintaining my car and changing the oil whenever the maintenance light comes on (and it wasn't even due yet). I bring it into Goodyear, where I last had the oil changed. The oil is almost COMPLETELY GONE- POOF!!! The oil was NOT leaking, it just dissipated into thin air!!! The guy is like "hmm..that's odd, but maybe someone just forgot to put the oil in. We'll put it in now." A month later- SAME PROBLEM. My husband verified that there was oil in the car the last time we left Goodyear, but only a month later it disappears!!! It was NOT leaking- just evaporating!!! So we bring it back to good year, and this time they do some internet research and discover that this is a KNOWN issue with 2007 Camry's but Toyota will only fix the problem for free if it is under 60,000 miles. It has something to do with O-rings or the pistons or something. Anyway, it is a problem that in order to fix, the engine has to be completely removed and then rebuilt. I was told this will cost upwards of $5,000 to repair or that I can just continually add oil myself every 1,000 miles

I've been very happy with my previous Camry's, having very few problems. I sought out another Camry LE 4 cylinder with my previous experiences in mind. So, we bought another (used) Camry this past summer. So the engine oil consumption didn't become apparent immediately after purchase, but this winter it showed up in force.

I went to the internet and found that there was a warranty campaign by Toyota to fix the problem. After doing two successive consumption tests on our own, I went to the local Toyota dealership to get an oil change and start a test. When I mentioned the problem, I was immediately told that the campaign was no longer available for a car with over 150,000 miles. Not happy to hear this. But, didn't five the service writer any grief, just asked for the CS # to Toyota.

Called them and they verified the campaign ended, and after talking to two people was told in no uncertain terms there is nothing they can do to help me. The 2nd CS person ended the conversation when she could tell I was trying to find some way around it. And when I asked to speak to her supervisor, was told there was not a supervisor to speak with....really?? So just send to the survey. And try not to harpoon them.
